Life and Music Career
How It All Started
Keidran Jones, who we know as Iyaz, was born in 1987. He grew up in a musical family on the island of Tortola in the British Virgin Islands.
He went to college at the New England Institute of Technology to study digital recording. This is the process of recording music using computers.
His music career began to take off when he was featured on the song "Island Girls" by Out Da Box Family. The song became a hit on the radio in the Caribbean.
In 2008, the singer Sean Kingston discovered Iyaz on Myspace. Kingston signed him to a recording contract with his record label. He also introduced Iyaz to the producer J.R. Rotem.
Rise to Fame with 'Replay' and 'Aurora'
In 2009, Iyaz released his first single, "Replay". The song was a huge success. It reached number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States and number 1 in many other countries, including the United Kingdom.
His second single, "Solo", came out in February 2010. It also did well, reaching number 32 on the Hot 100 chart. That same year, he joined many other artists to record a charity song called "We Are the World 25 for Haiti".
Iyaz released his first album, also called Replay, in 2010. Producer J.R. Rotem said that Iyaz worked very hard on his music to make sure it was perfect.
Iyaz also appeared on the TV show Hannah Montana. He sang a song with Miley Cyrus called "Gonna Get This" for the show's soundtrack.
Over the years, Iyaz has worked with many other famous artists.
- In 2011, he was featured on the Big Time Rush song "If I Ruled the World".
- He sang a duet called "You're My Only Shorty" with Demi Lovato for her album Unbroken.
- He also released the song "Pretty Girls" with Travie McCoy.
In 2014, Iyaz signed with a new record label called Rekless Music. He released his second album, Aurora, in Japan in 2015. One of the singles from this album was "Alive," featuring Nash Overstreet from the band Hot Chelle Rae.
