Kevin Molino's Football Journey
Playing for Orlando City
Kevin Molino started his professional career playing in the TT Pro League for teams like San Juan Jabloteh and Ma Pau SC. In 2011, he joined Orlando City in the USL Professional Division. He quickly showed his talent, scoring his first goal for the club in May 2011.
Molino became a key player for Orlando City. In 2014, during the club's last season in the USL, he set a new league record. He scored 20 goals, which was the most goals ever scored by a player in a single USL season. This helped Orlando City win the Commissioner's Cup for the third time.
In 2015, Orlando City moved up to play in Major League Soccer (MLS), the top football league in the United States. Molino was the very first player signed to their MLS team. However, he faced a big challenge when he tore his right ACL (a serious knee injury) during a friendly match. This meant he missed the rest of the 2015 MLS season. He returned in 2016 and scored his first MLS goal from a penalty kick.
Time with Minnesota United
In 2017, Molino moved to Minnesota United FC, rejoining his former coach, Adrian Heath. This transfer was one of the biggest in the league's history at the time. Sadly, in March 2018, Molino suffered another serious knee injury, tearing his left ACL. This happened after he had already scored two goals in the first game of the season.
He recovered and continued to play for Minnesota United until his contract ended after the 2020 season. He decided not to rejoin the team.
Joining Columbus Crew
In 2021, Molino signed with Columbus Crew, another team in Major League Soccer. Unfortunately, his time there was also affected by injuries. In August 2021, he tore his right ACL again. This was his third major knee injury during his MLS career.
Return to Defence Force
In October 2024, Molino returned to his home country and signed with TT Pro League club, Defence Force F.C.. He quickly made an impact, scoring three goals (a hat-trick) in a match against AC Port of Spain. In the very next game, he scored another hat-trick against Morvant Caledonia United, showing he was back in top form.
Playing for His Country
Kevin Molino has proudly represented Trinidad and Tobago at different levels. He played for the Under-17 and Under-20 teams before joining the senior national team. He made his international debut in 2010 against Guyana.
Molino announced his retirement from international football in September 2023. However, he returned to play in late 2024, helping his team achieve a 2–2 tie against Cuba in the 2024–25 CONCACAF Nations League.
About Kevin Molino
In early 2015, Kevin Molino received his U.S. green card. This meant he was considered a local player for MLS teams, which is important for team rosters.
Kevin also has a brother named Kevon Cooper, who is a well-known cricketer from Trinidad and Tobago. Kevon has played for various cricket teams around the world, including the Indian Premier League.
