Plot Summary
The movie follows a special white koala named Johnny. He is often teased because of his unusual fur color. To escape this, Johnny decides to join a traveling circus.
He gets help from two new friends: Hamish, a funny Tasmanian devil, and Higgens, a monkey who loves photography. Johnny hopes to become a star in the circus's main show.
Life in the Circus
However, Johnny is disappointed. He ends up in the "freak show" tent instead of the big main tent. The most popular act in the circus is the "Wild Bushman." This act draws away all the audience from Johnny's show.
One day, Johnny checks out the Wild Bushman's act. By accident, he becomes part of the show himself! The Wild Bushman ends up saving him during this unexpected event.
Lost in the Outback
Later, as the circus travels, their train car breaks off. It crashes in the middle of the Australian Outback desert. Johnny, Hamish, and Higgens are now stranded.
They need to find their way to the circus's next stop, "Precipice Lake." On their journey, they discover a beautiful billabong (a waterhole).
A Hero Appears
From a high cliff, they see a group of wild dogs called dingos. Their names are Blacktooth, Loki, and Cutter. They are chasing a small animal called a bilby. A thylacine named Hex is also with the dingoes.
Suddenly, a brave kangaroo named Mac jumps in to help. He is joined by an army of wombats and a clever female koala named Miranda. Miranda is very good at swinging on vines and throwing a boomerang.
A vulture named Boris warns everyone that a giant crocodile named Bog wants to take over the billabong.
The Koala Kid
During the rescue, things go wrong. The dingoes threaten to win. But then, the rock Johnny is standing on breaks loose! He slides down the cliff and rolls on top of a big boulder. This boulder chases the dingoes away!
Hamish quickly sees an opportunity. He introduces the now-famous white koala as "Koala Kid." Miranda, however, is not very impressed by Johnny.
Johnny watches Miranda secretly as she practices her boomerang skills. When she notices him, she breaks the branch he is on with her boomerang! Johnny tries to pretend he's an expert with the boomerang, but he's quickly proven wrong.
A Plan for Fame
Hamish has a plan: he wants to take photos of Johnny doing heroic things. This will make Johnny famous as "Koala Kid." Then, when they get back to the circus, they can be in the main show and earn Hamish more money.
Bog, the crocodile, is angry that his gang was scared away by a koala. He orders them to capture the "Koala Kid." During the chase, Miranda's younger sister, Charlotte, gets covered in white powder. She is mistaken for the Koala Kid and gets kidnapped!
The animals at the billabong decide to rescue Charlotte. They must cross a dangerous area called the "Bungle Bungles" to reach Precipice Lake. This adventure convinces Hamish to join Johnny and the team to save Charlotte.
Challenges and Friendship
During their journey, Johnny accidentally saves the day a few times. But Miranda still doesn't seem impressed. Johnny and Miranda fall into a sinkhole. They tell the others to go on without them.
Inside the caves, they are hunted by a giant monitor lizard called Bull. Bull has a thorn stuck in its foot. Johnny bravely saves Miranda, but then he realizes Bull is in pain. He pulls out the thorn. Bull becomes friends with Johnny! The two koalas then ride Bull out of the caves.
Just as Miranda starts to like Johnny, Boris the vulture reveals the truth. He tells everyone that Johnny is just a freak show act and that "Koala Kid" is a lie. Miranda is upset and tells Johnny to leave.
The Final Showdown
The gang realizes they need to bring a koala to Bog, but not Charlotte. Miranda bravely offers to take Charlotte's place. Charlotte goes to find Johnny. Meanwhile, Mac the kangaroo and the wombat army manage to distract and capture all of Bog's gang, except for the vulture.
Charlotte finds Johnny with Hamish, Higgens, and a wise, peg-leg wombat named Quint. They all decide to help Johnny get what he truly wants: Miranda. Johnny calls Bull, and they ride off to save Miranda.
Bog the crocodile shows up and chases them. They head towards the circus, hoping the Wild Bushman can stop Bog. Bog is too strong, but Johnny uses his boomerang to bring down the big top tent on top of Bog (and himself!).
In the end, Johnny, Miranda, and Bull become the main attraction at the circus. The bad guys are sold as pets. Johnny asks Miranda if she likes their new life. She's not entirely sure, so they decide on "Plan B": they ride off into the sunset together!
