Lake Poygan is a large lake in Wisconsin, a state in the United States. It is located close to the village of Winneconne. This lake is actually a wide part of the Wolf River. It covers a huge area of more than 14,000 acres, which is about 57 square kilometers.

Lake Poygan is connected to other lakes. It is part of a group called the Winnebago Pool or the Wolf Chain. This chain is a series of lakes that are all linked together. Both the Fox River and the Wolf River feed water into these lakes. The eastern part of Lake Poygan is sometimes called Lake Winneconne.

The Menominee people, who are Native Americans, have a special name for Lake Poygan. They call it Pawāhekaneh. This means "Wild Rice Threshing Lake." This name shows how important wild rice was for their food and economy a long time ago.

Like the other lakes in the Winnebago Pool, Lake Poygan is not very deep. Its average depth is about 6 feet (1.8 meters). The deepest part of the lake is around 11 feet (3.4 meters).

Boaters can travel easily on the Wolf River from Lake Poygan. They can go downstream to Lake Butte des Morts and Lake Winnebago, which are near Oshkosh. Boaters can also go upstream to Partridge Lake and Partridge Crop Lake, near Fremont and New London.
