Lance Solomon Reddick (born June 7, 1962 – died March 17, 2023) was an American actor and musician. He was famous for his roles in many TV shows and movies.
Some of his best-known characters include Cedric Daniels in The Wire and Phillip Broyles in Fringe. He also played Chief Irvin Irving in Bosch. In movies, he was known as Charon in the John Wick film series.
Lance Reddick also lent his voice and looks to popular video game characters. These include Sylens in Horizon Zero Dawn and Commander Zavala in the Destiny games.

Early Life and Education
Lance Solomon Reddick was born in Baltimore, Maryland. His parents were Dorothy Gee and Solomon Reddick. He went to Friends School of Baltimore.
As a teenager, Lance studied music at the Peabody Preparatory Institute. He also attended a summer program where he learned about music theory and how to compose music.
He later studied classical music composition at the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester. There, he earned a degree in music. In the early 1990s, he went to the Yale School of Drama and earned a Master of Fine Arts degree.
Acting Career Highlights
Lance Reddick became well-known for his role as Cedric Daniels in the HBO series The Wire. He had also tried out for other roles in the show.
In 2008, he joined the ABC series Lost. He played Matthew Abaddon, a character who worked for Charles Widmore. Reddick was one of several actors from the HBO series Oz to appear in Lost.
Lance Reddick released his first music album, Contemplations & Remembrances, in 2007. Soon after, he was cast in a main role in the TV show Fringe. He played Phillip Broyles, who led an FBI team investigating strange events. He was able to appear in both Lost and Fringe at the same time.
In 2013, Reddick appeared in the action movie White House Down. He also starred in a YouTube web series called DR0NE.
Lance Reddick played Charon in the action-thriller movie John Wick in 2014. He played this role again in the sequels, including John Wick: Chapter 4. He also voiced Commander Zavala in the video games Destiny (2014) and Destiny 2 (2017).
From 2014 to 2021, he played Chief Irvin Irving in the Amazon Prime series Bosch. He compared his police roles, saying his character in The Wire was a "cop at heart," his Fringe character was a "soldier," and Irving was a "politician."
In 2016, Reddick was cast in the post-apocalyptic horror film The Domestics. He also voiced Sylens in the 2017 video game Horizon Zero Dawn and its sequel Horizon Forbidden West. In 2021, he was in the movie Godzilla vs. Kong. In 2022, he played Albert Wesker in the Netflix series Resident Evil.
Lance Reddick will appear as the Greek god Zeus in the upcoming series Percy Jackson and the Olympians. This is a Disney+ show based on the popular book series. This role will be released after his passing.
His Passing
Lance Reddick passed away on March 17, 2023, at his home in Los Angeles. He was 60 years old. His publicist confirmed that he died suddenly from "natural causes."
Many of his friends and colleagues shared their sadness and paid tribute to him. This included his co-stars from The Wire and John Wick, like Keanu Reeves.
Fans of the Destiny video games also honored him. They visited Commander Zavala, the character Reddick voiced, in the game's social area. Players saluted him or sat quietly together to show their respect.
