Laufenburg District is an area in Switzerland. It's a part of the canton of Aargau. This district is mostly found in the upper Fricktal valley, which is in the Aargau Jura mountains. It's located south of the Rhine river. The main town and capital of the district is Laufenburg. As of 31 December 2020, about 33,279 people live here.

About Laufenburg District
Geography and Land Use
The Laufenburg district covers an area of about 152.56 square kilometers (58.9 square miles). A large part of this land is used for farming. About 49.2% of the district is farmland. Forests cover a significant portion, making up about 39.2% of the area. The remaining 10.4% of the land is developed with buildings and roads.
Population and People
As of 31 December 2020, the Laufenburg district has a population of about 33,279 people. In June 2009, about 15.6% of the people living here were foreign nationals.
Work and Economy
In 2000, there were 13,183 workers who lived in the Laufenburg district. Many of these people, about 73.7%, worked outside the district. However, 5,635 people traveled into the district for their jobs. In total, there were 9,104 jobs available in the district at that time.
Religion in the District
Based on the 2000 census, most people in the Laufenburg district are Christian. About 59.4% of the population, or 15,302 people, were Roman Catholic. Another 22.3%, or 5,752 people, belonged to the Swiss Reformed Church. A smaller number, about 0.50% of the population, were part of the Christian Catholic faith.
Education for Students
In the 2008/2009 school year, many students attended schools in the Laufenburg district. There were 2,224 students in primary school. Another 821 students were attending secondary school. For higher education, 555 students were studying at universities or other higher-level schools in the area.

Some of these municipalities have changed over time. For example, the area of Hottwil, Etzgen, Mettau, Oberhofen, and Wil are now part of Mettauertal. This happened on January 1, 2010. Also, Ittenthal joined Kaisten, and Sulz joined Laufenburg on the same date.
Changes to Municipalities (Mergers)
Since the year 2000, some municipalities in the Laufenburg district have combined. This is called a merger.
- On January 1, 2010, several municipalities merged to form new ones. Hottwil (from another district) and Etzgen, Mettau, Oberhofen, and Wil (from Laufenburg district) all joined together to create the new municipality of Mettauertal. At the same time, Ittenthal merged into Kaisten, and Sulz merged into Laufenburg.
- More recently, on January 1, 2022, the municipalities of Bözen, Effingen, and Elfingen (from the Brugg district) and Hornussen (from Laufenburg district) merged. They formed a new municipality called Böztal.
- Then, on January 1, 2023, Herznach and Ueken merged to become the new municipality of Herznach-Ueken.
