Laura Dahlmeier (born August 22, 1993) is a German athlete who used to compete in biathlon. Biathlon is a winter sport that combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting. Laura is famous for her amazing achievements in this sport. She won many medals at the Winter Olympics and World Championships.

Laura started her professional biathlon career in 2013. She quickly became one of the best biathletes in the world. She won a record five gold medals at the 2017 World Championships. In 2018, she made history by winning both the sprint and pursuit events at the Winter Olympics. She retired from the sport in 2019 at the age of 25.

Laura's Biathlon Journey

Starting Strong: Junior Success

Laura Dahlmeier showed her talent early on. At the 2013 Junior World Championships in Austria, she won three gold medals. These wins were in the individual, sprint, and relay races. She also earned a silver medal in the pursuit event.

After her junior success, Laura joined the German team for the 2013 Biathlon World Championships. She helped her team win by shooting perfectly in the women's relay race. The next season, she competed in her first full World Cup series.

First Wins and World Championship Medals

Laura's 2014-15 season started a bit late due to an injury. But she quickly caught up! In February 2015, she won her first World Cup race in the Czech Republic. She then earned six more podium finishes.

At the 2015 World Championships, she won her first two senior medals. She took home a silver in the pursuit and a gold in the women's relay.

Dominating the World Stage

The 2015-16 season was also very successful for Laura. She won five World Cup races. At the World Championships in Oslo, Norway, she won her first individual gold medal in the pursuit race. She also added a silver medal in the mass start and three bronze medals in other events.

Laura had her best season in 2016-17. She won the overall World Cup title, which means she was the best biathlete that season. At the World Championships in Austria, she was incredible. She won five gold medals and one silver! She was the first woman in biathlon history to win so many gold medals at a single World Championships.

Olympic Glory: Pyeongchang 2018

Laura's main goal for the 2017-18 season was the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. She achieved amazing success there. She became the second German woman to win an Olympic gold medal in the sprint event. She shot perfectly, even in windy conditions.

She then won a second gold medal in the pursuit race. To top it off, she also earned a bronze medal in the individual race. Her performance at the Olympics was truly outstanding.

Final Season and Retirement

Laura's last season, 2018-19, was affected by illness. However, she still managed to win a World Cup race in Italy. She also earned two bronze medals at the 2019 World Championships in Sweden.

In May 2019, Laura announced her retirement from biathlon. She said she no longer felt the full passion needed for professional competition. She retired at the young age of 25, leaving behind an amazing career.

Life After Biathlon

New Adventures and Projects

Even after retiring from biathlon, Laura Dahlmeier has stayed busy. In October 2019, she released a children's book. It's called Die Klima Gang: Laura Dahlmeier und Freunde im Einsatz für die Natur. She wrote this book with others.

She also worked as an expert commentator for the German TV channel ZDF during the 2019-2020 Biathlon World Cup season. This allowed her to stay connected to the sport she loves.

Mountain Running Success

Laura also found a new passion in mountain running. In June 2019, she won a 39-kilometer race in Germany. In September 2019, she won another 52-kilometer race in Austria and set a new course record for women. She even competed in the 2019 World Long Distance Mountain Running Championships in Argentina, finishing 27th.
