List of Star vs. the Forces of Evil characters facts for kids
The animated series Star vs. the Forces of Evil tells the story of Star Butterfly. She is a magical princess from another dimension called Mewni. Star is sent to Earth to finish her education and learn how to be a good princess. On Earth, she lives with Marco Diaz, a human teenager. Together, they go on exciting adventures in different dimensions. In the first season, they also try to stop the evil Ludo and his helpers from stealing Star's magic wand.

Princess Star Butterfly is voiced by Eden Sher. She is a magical princess from the dimension of Mewni. On her 14th birthday, she gets the royal magic wand. After accidentally causing a big mess, she is sent to Earth. There, she lives with the Diaz family as an exchange student.
Star loves exploring and being free from her parents' rules. They want her to be a perfect princess. Star is very loyal to her friends and brave in fights. She is always messing up, but she has a very good heart. Star is Eden Sher's first time doing voice acting.
Star wears a sea-green dress with a pink octopus on it. She has magenta and orange striped leggings and purple boots. She also carries a small yellow star-shaped bag. Star wears a magenta devil horn headband and has long blonde hair.

Marco Ubaldo Diaz is voiced by Adam McArthur. He is Star's best human friend and later becomes her boyfriend. Before meeting Star, he was known as a "safe kid." He is part Caucasian and part Hispanic. Marco usually wears a red hoodie and owns many of them.
He helps Star fight villains using his martial arts skills. He learned these moves at a karate dojo. Marco had a crush on his classmate Jackie Lynn Thomas for a long time. They started dating but later broke up.
In one episode, Marco dresses as a princess to help a friend. He becomes known as Princess Marco Turdina. He even gets regular royalty checks from this. Marco also spent time in another dimension where he aged 16 years. This means his friends and family see him as being "26 to 35" years old.

Moon Butterfly
Queen Moon Butterfly is voiced by Grey Griffin as an adult and Katie Driver as a child. She was the Queen of Mewni and Star Butterfly's mother. Moon became queen as a teenager after her mother was killed. She made a deal with Eclipsa to learn dark magic.
Moon was very protective of Star and ruled Mewni calmly. She was a strong fighter with powerful magic. She also knew a lot about Mewni's history and geography. Later, Moon lost her memories and ended up living in the forest. She eventually got her memories back. Moon tried to take back the throne from Eclipsa.
River Butterfly
King River Johansen-Butterfly is voiced by Alan Tudyk as an adult and Sonny Ashbourne Serkis as a child. He was the King of Mewni and Star Butterfly's father. River is from the Johansen family, who are like strong, outdoor-loving Vikings. He married Moon and took her family name.
River is big and strong, with a full beard. He often wears only a loincloth. He is a brave leader in battle. However, he was not very good at running Mewni when Moon was away.
The Diaz Family
Rafael and Angie Diaz are Marco and Mariposa's parents. They are voiced by Artt Butler and Nia Vardalos. They hosted Star when she came to Earth. They knew about Star's magic and her home dimension. They were very relaxed about Star and Marco's adventures. They even liked that Marco was becoming more adventurous.
The Diaz family is very supportive. They love traveling, hosting students, cooking, and art. They later had another child, a girl named Mariposa. Mariposa got stuck in another dimension and grew up there.
Principal Skeeves
Skeeves, voiced by Jeff Bennett, is the principal of Echo Creek Academy. He is very emotional and sometimes acts like a student. He easily accepted a bribe from Star's parents to let her attend the school. He cared more about the school's possum mascot than the students' education.
Ferguson and Alfonso
Ferguson O'Durguson and Alfonso Dolittle are Marco's two friends at Echo Creek. Ferguson is voiced by Nate Torrence and Alfonso by Matt Chapman. Ferguson has orange hair and likes making funny faces with his belly. Alfonso has curly hair and wears glasses. They mostly appeared in the first season. In later seasons, they became annoyed by Marco always talking about his adventures.
Starfan13
Starfan13, voiced by Daron Nefcy, is a huge fan of Star Butterfly. She often tries to look like Star and copy her interests.
Ludo's Minions
Ludo's minions are monsters that look like a mix of animals and humans. Some of them are Beard Deer, Bearicorn, Big Chicken, and Lobster Claws. They worked for Ludo in Season One. After Ludo's castle was destroyed, they were replaced by rats. Later, they were shown living in a monster village. Many of them left Mewni to avoid being treated unfairly.
Pony Head
Pony Head, voiced by Jenny Slate, is a floating unicorn head. She is Star's best friend from Mewni. She is sassy, sarcastic, and likes to cause trouble. Pony Head often doesn't get along with Marco. She is the oldest of King Pony Head's 13 daughters. Even though she can be a bit selfish, she is very loyal to Star. In Season 4, she starts her own TV show.
Jackie Lynn Thomas
Jackie Lynn Thomas, voiced by Grey Griffin, is a skateboarding classmate. Marco had a crush on her since kindergarten. She and Marco started dating but later broke up.
Margaret Skullnick
Margaret Skullnick, voiced by Dee Dee Rescher, is Star and Marco's homeroom and math teacher. Star accidentally turned her into a green troll in one episode. She stayed a troll for the rest of the series.
Sensei Brantley
Sensei Brantley, voiced by Nick Swardson, teaches karate at a strip mall dojo that Marco attends. He learned karate from instructional videos. He earned his red belt along with Marco.
Jeremy Birnbaum
Jeremy Birnbaum, voiced by Joshua Rush, is a spoiled kid and Marco's rival. His parents help pay for Sensei's dojo.
Oskar Greason
Oskar Greason, voiced by Jon Heder, is an Echo Creek student. He was Star Butterfly's crush in Season 1. He is usually seen playing his keytar or in his car.
Brittney Wong
Brittney Wong, voiced by Minae Noji, is a spoiled rich student and head cheerleader. She often gets annoyed by Star's silly actions.
Glossaryck
Glossaryck was Star's magic guide. He lived inside the Butterfly family's Book of Spells. He was voiced by Jeffrey Tambor (seasons 1–3) and Keith David (seasons 3–4). Glossaryck died when Ludo burned the book. He was later brought back to life but seemed to have lost his intelligence. In Season 3, it was revealed he was still smart. He had been trying to tell Star about Globgor. Glossaryck, along with the Magic High Commission, died when Star destroyed magic.
Tom Lucitor
Thomas Draconius Lucitor, voiced by Rider Strong, is a hot-headed, three-eyed demon prince. He is Star's ex-boyfriend. He tries to control his temper. Tom eventually becomes good friends with Marco. In Season 3, he and Star start dating again. In Season 4, Tom and Star grow apart. Tom realizes Star is still in love with Marco and breaks up with her. He even encourages Marco to be with Star.
Buff Frog
Yvgeny Bulgolyubov, known as Buff Frog, is voiced by Fred Tatasciore. He is a frog-like creature who speaks with a Russian accent. He first worked as Ludo's spy. Later, he became friends with Star. Buff Frog settled down in Mewni and started a family. He later led the monsters in leaving Mewni to avoid unfair treatment.
Janna Ordonia
Janna Ordonia, voiced by Abby Elliott, is a mysterious Filipino-American student. She hangs out with Star and Marco. Janna has black hair and brown eyes. She often wears an olive green shirt, turquoise jacket, yellow skirt, and a green beanie hat. She likes spooky things like séances. Janna often visits Marco's house and eats their food. She can also hypnotize people. Janna later moves to Mewni.
Kelly
Kelly, voiced by Dana Davis, has large turquoise hair that can cover her whole body. She is an old friend of Star and Pony Head. Kelly is very sensible and honest. She first appeared in "Goblin Dogs." Kelly had a boyfriend named Tad, who lived on top of her hair. After they broke up, Kelly and Marco became "break up buddies." They spent a lot of time together but eventually broke up. They remained friends.
Eclipsa Butterfly
Eclipsa Butterfly, voiced by Esmé Bianco, was a former queen of Mewni. She was known as the "Queen of Darkness." Eclipsa was imprisoned in crystal for using "dark magic" and marrying a monster named Globgor. Her child, Meteora, was replaced with another girl.
Moon made a deal with Eclipsa to learn a spell to defeat Toffee. This deal freed Eclipsa from her crystal prison. Eclipsa was put under house arrest. Star helped her get a fair trial. Eclipsa later turned her daughter Meteora back into a baby. Star then made Eclipsa the Queen of Mewni again. Eclipsa tried to free Globgor and win over the Mewmen. She was finally reunited with her family. At the end of the series, she helped Star destroy all magic. She then lived a happy life with her husband and child.
Globgor
Globgor, voiced by Jaime Camil, is Eclipsa's monster husband and Meteora's father. He was crystallized around the same time as Eclipsa. Eclipsa tried many times to free him. It was revealed that his army had caused trouble in the past. On Eclipsa's coronation day, he was freed. He later proved he was not evil and was accepted by the kingdom.
The Avarius Family
Lord Brudo and Lady Avarius are Ludo's parents. They are voiced by John DiMaggio and Tress MacNeille. They have many children, but only Ludo's younger brother, Dennis, is often seen. They used to live in Castle Avarius until Ludo took it over. They are a very strange family. Brudo is grumpy and lazy. Lady Avarius changes moods quickly. Dennis, voiced by Atticus Shaffer, is kind and caring. He helped Queen Moon find Ludo. All the Avarius family members look like birds, except Ludo. Dennis can fly.
Antagonists
Ludo
Ludo Avarius, voiced by Alan Tudyk, is a bird-like creature from Mewni. He has a round head and a beak. He wears a cap made from a skull. Ludo had a difficult childhood. He wanted Star's wand to take over the universe. He commanded an army of monsters. His monsters were not very good, so he hired Toffee. Toffee later betrayed Ludo and took over his castle. At the end of Season 1, Ludo's castle was destroyed, and he was thrown into a void.
In Season 2, Ludo found a new wand. His new helpers were a giant spider, a giant bald eagle, and rats. He used the wand to float. Toffee later took control of Ludo's body. Ludo helped defeat Toffee. After this, Ludo asked Star to send him back into the void to think about his life. In Season 4, Ludo tried to steal the wand again. But he realized he hated his old ways and wanted to move on. His brother Dennis bought back their old castle. Ludo decided to embrace his old villainous ways to get the castle deed back from a con artist.
Toffee
Toffee, voiced by Michael C. Hall, was a Septarian. Septarians are lizard-like humanoids who can heal very quickly, making them almost immortal. Toffee was a big enemy of Star's family. He was a much scarier villain than Ludo.
Years ago, Toffee led an army against Mewni. He killed Moon Butterfly's mother. Moon used a dark spell to defeat him. After Star came to Earth, Toffee convinced Ludo to hire him. Toffee then took over Ludo's operations. He captured Marco and forced Star to destroy her wand. Toffee was consumed in the explosion, but his arm remained. Ludo later found his arm and used it as a wand. Toffee slowly took control of Ludo. He then took over Mewni. Toffee was badly wounded by Star and then seemingly killed by Ludo.
Meteora Butterfly / Miss Heinous
Meteora Butterfly is voiced by Jessica Walter, Bryana Salaz, Tress MacNeille, and Kari Wahlgren. She is the daughter of Eclipsa and Globgor. She was the true heir to the Mewni throne but was replaced as a baby. Meteora was raised by a robot headmistress named Olga. She forgot who she was and became Miss Heinous, the headmistress of St. Olga's Reform School for Wayward Princesses.
Star and Marco forced her out of the school. Meteora later found her childhood home and remembered her past. She became a giant, soul-sucking monster. Eclipsa eventually turned her back into a baby. In Season 4, Meteora and Marco's baby sister, Mariposa, got stuck in another dimension and grew up there.
Mina Loveberry
Mina Loveberry, voiced by Amy Sedaris, is a Mewman warrior. She was once a peasant. Queen Solaria turned her into a super-soldier who could resist magic. Mina is obsessed with her promise to Solaria to get rid of all monsters. Star once looked up to Mina. Mina tried to take over Earth because she disliked its democracy. She also tried to kill Miss Heinous. Mina later worked with Moon to try and remove Eclipsa from the throne. Mina eventually betrayed Moon. She wanted to get rid of all monsters and anyone who supported them. Mina survived the destruction of magic. She became powerless but still held onto her beliefs.
Magic High Commission
The Magic High Commission was a group of powerful magical beings. They protected magic in the universe and tried to do what was best for Mewni. Glossaryck created them to show the benefits of magic, time, space, and exploring dimensions. Moon was also a member. In the end, the Magic High Commission (except Moon) died when Star destroyed magic.
- Hekapoo, The Scissors Enforcer (voiced by Zosia Mamet) - She is a horned humanoid with spiky arms. She made the dimensional scissors and could create copies of herself. Hekapoo had a respectful and playful relationship with Marco. She helped fight Meteora. She died when Star destroyed magic but accepted her fate.
- Omnitraxus Prime, Master of Space-Time (voiced by Carl Weathers) - He is a skull-headed, galaxy-themed creature. He could control space and time. He was one of the founders of the Magic High Commission.
- Lekmet, High Chancellor (voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson) - He was a goat-headed demon created by Glossaryck. He was a founder of the Magic High Commission. He spoke a goat language that Rhombulus understood. He died using his energy to heal the other members of the Magic High Council.
- Rhombulus (voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson) - He is a diamond-headed creature with snake-headed arms. He was the Magic High Commission's enforcer. He could trap others in unbreakable crystal. He later freed Globgor under Moon's orders. He was "arrested" but it was an act. He worked with Hekapoo, Omnitraxus, and Moon to try and remove Eclipsa from the throne.
