Jersey City is a vibrant city in New Jersey, known for its amazing skyline. A skyline is the outline of buildings and other structures seen against the sky. This city is home to many super tall buildings called skyscrapers. These tall buildings are a big part of Jersey City's look and feel.
The tallest building in Jersey City is 99 Hudson Street. It has 79 floors and stands at 900 feet (274 meters) tall! It was finished in 2018. This makes it the tallest building in all of New Jersey. It's also one of the tallest residential buildings in the United States outside of New York City or Chicago.
The second tallest building is 30 Hudson Street, often called the "Goldman Sachs Tower." It's 781 feet (238 meters) tall and has 42 floors. It was the tallest building in Jersey City from 2004 to 2018. The third tallest is Journal Squared Tower 2, which is 754 feet (230 meters) tall with 70 floors.
Did you know that nine out of the ten tallest buildings in New Jersey are right here in Jersey City? Even though Jersey City has a population of less than 300,000 people, it's the smallest city in the U.S. to have a building taller than 750 feet (229 meters).
The story of skyscrapers in Jersey City began in 1928 with the Labor Bank Building. It was 15 floors and 179 feet (55 meters) tall. This building is often seen as the city's first skyscraper.
Jersey City has had a big building boom, especially since the late 1990s. Many of the city's tallest buildings, like 30 Hudson Street, were built during this time. This growth has continued, with many new tall buildings appearing since 2002. As of 2022, Jersey City has 122 completed high-rise buildings. Thirty of these are at least 410 feet (125 meters) tall.
