Lu Han (Chinese: 鹿晗; born April 20, 1990), known as Luhan, is a Chinese singer, actor, and dancer. He was part of the South Korean-Chinese boy group Exo and its sub-group Exo-M. He left the group in October 2014.
In 2014, China National Radio said he was the sixth most popular entertainment star in China. By 2017, Forbes China listed him as the second highest-paid celebrity.
Luhan released his first solo album, Reloaded, in 2015. He has also starred in popular movies. These include 20 Once Again (2015), The Witness (2015), and Time Raiders (2016). In 2017, he appeared in his first TV show, Fighter of the Destiny.

Early Life and Training
Luhan was born on April 20, 1990, in Haidian, Beijing, China. He went to Beijing Shida Middle School. Later, he studied at Beijing Haidian Foreign Language Shi Yan School.
He moved to South Korea to study at Yonsei University as an exchange student. He then studied Applied Music at the Seoul Institute of the Arts.
In 2008, Luhan tried out for JYP Entertainment but was not chosen. In 2010, while in Seoul, an SM Entertainment agent saw him. He was asked to audition for the company. After that, he became a trainee with SM Entertainment.
Music Career
2011–2014: Joining and Leaving Exo
Luhan first performed on TV at the SBS Gayo Daejeon on December 29, 2011. He performed with Tao, Chen, and Kai. He was the second member of Exo to be officially introduced. He was one of the four Chinese members of Exo and its sub-group, Exo-M.
On October 10, 2014, Luhan decided to end his contract with SM Entertainment. He then left Exo.
2015–2016: Solo Music and First Tour
Luhan often sang songs for movies he was in. He sang "Our Tomorrow" for the movie 20 Once Again. The song's music video got over 1 million views in just 47 minutes. This set a new record. He also sang "Tian mi mi" for the film Comrades: Almost a Love Story. The director, Peter Chan, chose Luhan for his clear voice.
In July 2015, Luhan announced his first solo album. He worked with producer Djemba Djemba. This was Djemba's first time producing an album for an Asian artist. That same month, Luhan sang with David Tao for a song about the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.
Luhan's first digital album, Reloaded I, came out on September 10, 2015. It was released on QQ Music. It sold 880,000 copies on its first day. This was the highest first-day sales record. Reloaded I also sold over one million copies on QQ Music very quickly. In November, he released "Medals". This song was also the soundtrack for the 2015 film The Witness. "Medals" reached the top of the V Chart and the Billboard Hot 100. It was the first Mandarin song to top the Billboard Hot 100. In December, he released "Deep" for the Chinese version of Kungfu Panda 3.
Luhan's first studio album, Reloaded, was released on December 14, 2015. The album topped the Tower Records chart in Japan. It was also the only album from mainland China to be in the Top 5 of Taiwan's G-Music year-end chart. Reloaded sold over 3 million copies. It was also certified platinum by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry. This was the first time an album from mainland China achieved this.
Luhan won Best Digital Album of the Year for Reloaded at the QQ Music Awards. He also won Best Male Singer of the Year. He then started his first solo concert tour, "Luhan Reloaded: 2016 Luhan 1st China Tour". He performed in Beijing, Guangzhou, and Shanghai. He won several other awards that month. He is also the first Chinese singer to get a double platinum record. This means he sold over 2 million copies of Reloaded I.
2016–Present: The XXVII Series
From late 2016, Luhan began releasing a series of albums called "XXVII". This name stands for "Xperience", "Xplore", "Venture", "Imagination", and "I". These albums show Luhan's journey as he turned 27.
On October 21, 2016, Luhan released his third digital album, Xperience. It included the song "Catch Me When I Fall". This song was made with Santell and the Picard Brothers. On December 27, 2016, he released his fourth digital album, Xplore. It had the songs "Winter Song" and "Skin to Skin". "Skin to Skin" was Luhan's second English song. It mixed R&B, Future Bass, Electro, and House music styles.
On February 21, 2017, Luhan released his fifth digital album, Venture. It featured "What if I Said" and "Roleplay". Luhan helped write the lyrics for "Roleplay". This song was about his experiences with paparazzi. "Imagination" came out in April 2017. It had two songs: "On Call" (his first jazz fusion song) and "Say It". "I", the last album in the series, was released in June 2017. It included "Set It Off" and "On Fire".
On July 20, 2017, Luhan won "Album of the Year" at the Asian Music Gala for the XXVII album series. On September 9, 2017, he released a song for the movie Sky Hunter.
On April 17, 2019, Luhan released π-volume.1. It sold over 3.4 million copies. On August 30, 2019, he released π-volume.2, which sold over 1.2 million copies.
On January 17, 2020, Luhan released "Dream Up". This song promoted his third concert tour.
Television and Film Career
Luhan's first movie was 20 Once Again in 2015. This was a Chinese remake of the Korean movie Miss Granny. The movie was very popular and broke records. It became the highest-grossing Korean-Chinese co-produced film. Luhan won "Newcomer of the Year" at the Beijing International Film Festival. He also won "Most Popular Actor" at the Beijing College Student Film Festival. In the same year, he joined the TV show Hurry Up, Brother. This show was based on the South Korean program Running Man. Luhan then starred with Yang Mi in the crime movie The Witness. This was a remake of the 2011 Korean movie Blind.
In 2016, he starred in the fantasy movie Time Raiders. It was based on the online novel series Tomb Raiders. The movie was released on August 5 and was a big hit. He also appeared in The Great Wall. This historical movie was directed by Zhang Yimou.
In 2017, Luhan starred in his first TV drama, Fighter of the Destiny. This was a fantasy series based on a novel. In June, he was cast in the youth sports drama Sweet Combat with Guan Xiaotong. In September, it was announced that Luhan would be in the science fiction film Shanghai Fortress with Shu Qi. This movie was based on a 2006 novel and came out in 2019.
Luhan's Influence
Some foreign media have called Luhan the "Chinese Justin Bieber". This is because he is very popular in China and has many dedicated fans. The "Luhan effect" describes how much influence he has on his fans. He holds a Guinness World Record for "Most Comments on a Weibo Post". He set this record in August 2014 and then broke his own record in September 2015. In 2016, he set another Guinness World Record. This was for the "Largest gathering of people wearing antlers" at his 2016 concert in Beijing. He is also known for his success in music and film. He holds records on Chinese music platforms. He also ranks high on online ticket-buying platforms.
Luhan first appeared on the Forbes China Celebrity 100 list in 2015, at number 37. He moved up to number 2 in 2017. This made him the highest-ranked male celebrity in China that year. In 2016, Luhan was on Business of Fashion's "BOF 100" list. He was the only Chinese celebrity to be on this list. He was called the "Most Anticipated Chinese Star". He is also the first celebrity born after 1990 to be named "Artist of the Year" by China Newsweek.
Endorsements and Ambassador Roles
Luhan is a very popular choice for brands in China. Many young people like him. He has promoted many products. These include Chinese brands like Oppo phones and Baidu maps. He also promotes international brands like Puma and Cartier SA. He was Cartier's first Asian endorser.
On December 1, 2015, Luhan became the official China ambassador for Star Wars. He released a song called "The Inner Force". This was the official Chinese promotional song for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
