MacGillivray is a special place in South Australia. It is located on the south coast of Kangaroo Island. This area looks out over the Southern Ocean, which is also known as the Great Australian Bight. It is about 140 kilometers southwest of Adelaide, the state capital. It is also about 24 kilometers south of Kingscote, the main town on Kangaroo Island.

What is MacGillivray?
MacGillivray is a "locality." This is like a small area or district. Its borders were officially set up in May 2002. The name comes from an older land division called the Hundred of MacGillivray.
Land and Nature
The land in MacGillivray is used for two main things: farming and protecting nature. The northern part of MacGillivray is used for agriculture, which means growing crops or raising animals.
Protected Areas
The southern part of MacGillivray is all about conservation. This means protecting the natural environment. It includes important protected areas:
- The Cape Gantheaume Conservation Park: This park includes a wetland system at Murray Lagoon. Wetlands are areas where water covers the soil, like swamps or marshes.
- The Cape Gantheaume Wilderness Protection Area: This area covers the entire coast, including a headland called Cape Gantheaume. A headland is a piece of land that sticks out into the sea.
Faulding's Eucalyptus Plantation
MacGillivray is also home to the former Faulding's Eucalyptus Plantation. This place is listed on the South Australian Heritage Register. This means it is an important historical site that needs to be preserved.
