Mandy Patinkin (born November 30, 1952) is an American actor and singer. He is famous for his work in musicals, on TV, and in movies.
Mandy Patinkin has won many awards for his acting. These include a Tony Award for his work on stage and an Primetime Emmy Award for his TV roles. He is well-known for playing Che in the musical Evita. He also played Inigo Montoya in the movie The Princess Bride. On TV, he starred as Saul Berenson in the show Homeland.

About Mandy Patinkin
Early Life and Education
Mandy Patinkin was born in Chicago, Illinois, on November 30, 1952. His mother, Doralee, wrote a cookbook. His father, Lester, owned metal factories. Mandy grew up in a Jewish family. He went to religious school and sang in synagogue choirs.
He went to South Shore High School and Kenwood Academy. After high school, he studied at the University of Kansas. Then, he went to the Juilliard School, a famous performing arts school.
Becoming an Actor
Mandy Patinkin started his acting career in New York in 1975. He appeared in TV commercials and on the radio first. His first stage role was in a play called Trelawny of the 'Wells'. He acted alongside famous stars like Meryl Streep.
On Stage

Mandy Patinkin became very successful in musical theater. In 1979, he played Che in Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical Evita on Broadway. He won a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for this role.
In 1984, he starred in Stephen Sondheim's musical Sunday in the Park with George. He played the artist Georges Seurat. This role earned him another Tony Award nomination. He also played Lord Archibald Craven in The Secret Garden in 1991. Later, he starred in The Wild Party in 2000.
In Movies
Mandy Patinkin has been in many movies. In 1983, he played Avigdor in Barbra Streisand's movie Yentl. He was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for this role.

One of his most famous roles is Inigo Montoya in The Princess Bride (1987). He played a skilled swordsman seeking revenge. His line, "My Name is Inigo Montoya, You Killed My Father, Prepare to Die," is very famous. People still love his character from this movie.
He also appeared in movies like Dick Tracy (1990) and Wonder (2017). He even voiced characters in animated films like Castle in the Sky (2003).
On Television
Mandy Patinkin has had many leading roles on television. He played Dr. Jeffrey Geiger in Chicago Hope from 1994 to 2000. He won an Emmy Award for this role in 1995.
He was also Jason Gideon in the crime show Criminal Minds (2005–2007). From 2011 to 2020, he played Saul Berenson in the drama series Homeland. More recently, he starred as Rufus Cotesworth in Death and Other Details (2024).

Mandy Patinkin married actress and writer Kathryn Grody in 1980. They have two sons, Isaac and Gideon. His son Gideon has even performed on stage with him.
Health and Activism
Mandy Patinkin had eye surgery in the 1990s for a condition called keratoconus. He also had treatment for prostate cancer in 2004. After his recovery, he did a charity bike ride with his son.
He is involved in many causes. He often sings in Yiddish, a Jewish language. He has also supported Jewish culture by writing introductions for books. Mandy Patinkin is also known for his activism. He has spoken about helping refugees from war-torn countries. He wants to help create a better quality of life for people worldwide.
