About Massimiliano Fuksas
Massimiliano Fuksas was born in Rome, Italy, in 1944. His father was from Lithuania, and his mother had French and Austrian roots.
In the early 1960s, he worked with the famous artist Giorgio de Chirico in Rome. Later, he worked with other well-known architects in London and Copenhagen. He earned his architecture degree from La Sapienza University in Rome in 1969. He opened his first office there in 1967.
Since 1985, he has worked closely with his second wife, Doriana Mandrelli. She also became an architect in 2007. Together, they opened more offices in Paris (1989), Vienna (1993), Frankfurt (2002), and Shenzhen, China (2008).
One of their most impressive projects is the new Terminal 3 at Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport. They designed and built it between 2008 and 2013. This building is a great example of using advanced computer design to create a huge structure.
Massimiliano and Doriana Fuksas have two daughters, Elisa and Lavinia.
From 1994 to 1997, Fuksas helped plan cities in Berlin and Salzburg. He has always been very interested in how cities grow and change. He also wrote an architecture column for the weekly magazine L'Espresso. In 2000, he was the director of the 7th International Architecture Exhibition at the Venice Biennale. This is a big art and architecture event.
He has also taught architecture at many universities. These include the École spéciale d'architecture in Paris and Columbia University in New York. In December 2021, he also got his Lithuanian citizenship back.
