History of the Music Hall
The Memphis Music Hall of Fame was created to honor Memphis's big role in many types of music. This includes blues, gospel, jazz, R&B, country, rockabilly, and hip-hop. The Hall of Fame officially began on November 29, 2012. Its first 25 honorees were inducted at the Cannon Center for the Performing Arts.
Each person or group inducted into the Memphis Music Hall of Fame receives the Mike Curb Award. This award is named after Mike Curb, a famous songwriter, producer, and record company owner. A special committee chooses the new inductees each year. This committee includes authors, producers, historians, and leaders in the music world. The number of people inducted each year can be different.
On August 1, 2015, the Memphis Music Hall of Fame opened its museum and exhibit hall. You can find it at 126 S. 2nd Street, between the Hard Rock Cafe and Lansky Brothers' Clothier. The museum displays special items and old materials from almost all of the 60 inductees.
