National Museums Scotland (NMS) is a group of museums in Scotland. It is run by the Scottish Government. NMS looks after many important collections for the country. These collections cover natural sciences, art, world cultures, science, technology, and Scottish history.

National Museums Scotland manages several amazing museums across the country. Each one offers a unique look into different parts of history and knowledge.
National Museum of Scotland
This museum is in Edinburgh. It has two main parts:
- The Museum of Scotland: This part tells the story of Scotland's history and its people. You can learn about ancient times right up to today.
- The Royal Museum: This section explores many different topics. It includes global geology, ancient finds (archaeology), animals (natural history), science, technology, and art from around the world.
National Museum of Flight

National Museum of Rural Life
This museum is found at Wester Kittochside farm in South Lanarkshire. It shows what life was like on a Scottish farm in the past. You can explore old farm buildings and see how people lived and worked.
National War Museum
You can find this museum inside Edinburgh Castle. It tells the story of Scotland's military history. You can learn about battles, soldiers, and how wars have shaped Scotland.
Looking After Collections
National Museums Scotland has a special building called the National Museums Collection Centre. It is in Granton, Edinburgh. This is where many of the museum's items are stored safely. You can sometimes take guided tours to see behind the scenes. A newer building there holds collections of old clothes and fabrics.
The National Museum of Costume used to be at Shambellie House. This museum closed in 2013.
