North Uxbridge is a small village located in the town of Uxbridge in Worcester County, Massachusetts, United States. It has its own postal zip code, 01538. This village is about 266 feet (81 meters) above sea level.
North Uxbridge is part of the Eastern time zone. It is located about 36 miles west-southwest of Boston. It is also about 15 miles southeast of Worcester. In 1885, the town decided to make North Uxbridge a "special district." This happened because its population grew to over 1000 people. In 1960, North Uxbridge was even counted as a separate area in the census. In 2013, a local TV show called The Garage, with Steve Butler became popular worldwide from North Uxbridge.

North Uxbridge is the main northern village of Uxbridge. People sometimes call it the "north end." The village gets all its services from the town of Uxbridge. These services include fire, police, and emergency medical help. Uxbridge also provides schools and public works for the village.
There is a North Uxbridge fire station, Number 2. The village has a commercial area with shops and restaurants. The Cornerstone Church is a well-known building in the center of the village. It used to be the North Uxbridge Baptist Church. Even though it's a village, the U.S. Census Bureau now considers it part of Uxbridge. Major employers in the area include the local school district. A company that makes plastics also operates in the old Rivulet mill building. Many new homes have been built in North Uxbridge recently. The old North Uxbridge elementary school is a historic building. It was also known as the Virginia Blanchard Pre-K Center.
A Look Back: North Uxbridge's History
This village is home to the historic Rogerson Village. Robert Rogerson built this village in the 1820s. It includes the Crown and Eagle Mills. These mills are seen as a great example of early New England mill villages. They had a water-powered cotton mill and homes for the workers.
This way of building mills became known as "The Rhode Island System." It involved water-powered mills, dams, and nearby worker villages. North Uxbridge also had other old mills. These include the Rivulet Mill and Richard Sayles Mills. The Rivulet Mill was first built in 1814. The Clapp Mill was built in 1810.
Many historic places in North Uxbridge are listed on the Federal Register of historic places. These include the Blanchard School, the Samuel Taft House, and the A. Whipple House. The village was also home to the Blanchard Granite quarry. This quarry provided a lot of granite to other parts of the Eastern United States. For example, it helped rebuild Boston after its big fire in 1872. It also sold curbstones to New York City.
The North Uxbridge School, also called the Virginia A. Blanchard School, is on the register of Historic Places. Rogerson's Village is also listed. North Uxbridge is part of the Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor. This corridor is managed by the National Park Service. The Blackstone River Valley is known as the oldest industrialized region in the United States. North Uxbridge shares borders with Linwood and Northbridge. Mendon is to the East, and Douglas is to the west.
More Recent Times
In the late 1900s, the old James Whitin Estate, also known as "GrayRock," was used for a special purpose. This estate later burned down in a large fire. Today, Fire Station Number 2 of the Uxbridge Fire Department is located there.
