Oakenshaw is a village in West Yorkshire, England. It is special because it sits across two local areas: the City of Bradford and Kirklees. You can find Oakenshaw right between the town of Cleckheaton and the area of Wyke.

The village is also very close to the M606 motorway, which is a major road. Oakenshaw has a main shopping area on Bradford Road. Its main church, dedicated to St Andrew, is a very old and important building. It is called a grade II listed building, meaning it has special historical value.

Getting Around Oakenshaw

Oakenshaw has good ways to travel, especially by train.

Train Travel

The village is served by Low Moor railway station. This station is on the Calder Valley line, which is a train route. From here, you can catch trains to big cities like Leeds, Bradford Interchange, and Manchester Victoria.

There used to be another train line called the Spen Valley Line. This line went from Low Moor to Mirfield. It passed through towns like Cleckheaton and Heckmondwike. Another part of this line went to Dewsbury. However, this train line closed down in 1965. Now, that old railway path is a popular walking and cycling route called the Spen Valley Greenway.
