Oliver Golding (born 29 September 1993) is a British former professional tennis player and a child actor. He showed great talent in junior tennis, reaching a world ranking of number two. In 2011, he became the U.S. Open Boys' Champion.
Oliver also won a gold medal at the Youth Olympic Games. He achieved this in 2010 in the boys' doubles event. His partner was Czech player Jiří Veselý. They also reached the final of the boys' doubles at the 2010 U.S. Open.

Oliver Golding's Tennis Career
Starting Out in Tennis
Oliver Golding began playing tennis in 2004 at the Esporta Riverside Club. Later that year, he visited Wimbledon. This was part of a special program where he met famous tennis players. These included Martina Navratilova and Todd Woodbridge.
In 2005, Oliver played for England in the first-ever Aberdeen Cup. He won his junior match against Scotland's Scott Lister. People noticed his talent, and he even impressed tennis star Andy Murray.
In late 2006, Oliver reached the semi-final of the Ariel Winter Grand Prix. He was the fourth seed but lost to Andrew Bettles.
First Tournament Wins
Oliver won his first two tournaments in 2007. He won the Bournemouth Open (Boys 14) by defeating David Wright. He also won the Frutina Westway Winter Tournament (16 & Under). In that final, he beat Alexander Wilton.
He received a £2,000 grant from "Tennis First," a charity that helps young players. He also got tennis gear from the company Fred Perry. In 2008, Oliver won the Rickmansworth Junior Tournament (18 & Under Boys Singles).
Oliver won his first international junior tournament in July 2008. It was the Grade 5 Scottish International ITF doubles competition. He became the top British junior player in late 2009.
Junior Successes
In 2010, Oliver reached the semifinals of the junior boys' singles at Wimbledon. He beat the world's number one junior player, Jason Kubler, along the way.
At the Youth Olympics, Oliver defeated the world's number one junior, Márton Fucsovics. He then won a gold medal in boys' doubles with his partner Jiří Veselý. This success helped him enter the top 20 of the world junior rankings.
At the 2010 US Open, Oliver and Jiří Veselý reached the boys' doubles final. They played well but lost the match. In September 2011, Oliver won the US Open boys' singles title. This achievement helped him reach his highest junior ranking of number two in the world.

Turning Professional
In 2011, Oliver was given a special entry to play at the Aegon Championships in London. This was his first non-junior event. He lost in the first round to Nicolas Mahut.
At the French Open, Oliver reached the boys' singles quarter-finals. He also made it to the quarter-finals in boys' doubles with Jiří Veselý.
At the Wimbledon Championships, Oliver and Jiří Veselý reached the boys' doubles final. They played a tough match but lost in three sets. Oliver also played in the boys' singles, reaching the second round.
Oliver partnered with Liam Broady at the 2011 U.S. Open boys' doubles. They were beaten in the quarter-finals. However, in the boys' Singles, Oliver won the final against Jiří Veselý. Oliver finished 2011 with a world junior ranking of 3.
In 2012, Oliver mostly played on the Futures tour. He won two tournaments and reached one more final. He also made his first appearance on the ATP Tour at the 2012 Aegon Championships. He played in his first major tournament at Wimbledon, but lost both matches.
Stepping Away from Tennis
In August 2014, Oliver announced he was taking a break from professional tennis. He felt he was just "going through the motions." This was partly because of changes in funding for tennis players in the UK. He also disliked traveling, which is a big part of being a professional player.
By 2015, Oliver was no longer a full-time tennis player. He started helping out at his mother's tennis coaching school.
In August 2017, Oliver made a short return to tennis. He won an ITF Futures tournament in Italy. He defeated Davide Galoppini in the final. He then reached the final of his next Futures event in Nottingham.

Oliver Golding also had an early career as a child actor.
Early Acting Roles
Oliver's first appearance was in a TV commercial for Vauxhall Motors in 1996, when he was just two years old. In 1997, he had a small part in a stage play called Wind in the Willows.
His next TV role was in 1998 as Nat in Coming Home. This was a romantic drama set during World War II. The show also starred Keira Knightley.
Film and Stage Work
Oliver's first movie was All or Nothing in 2002. It was a comedy-drama by Mike Leigh. His biggest film role came in The Adventures of Greyfriars Bobby. This movie tells the story of a child who cares for a policeman's dog after the policeman dies. The child has to fight to save the dog's life. The movie was filmed in 2004–2005 and released in 2005.
In 2003, Oliver played Jeremy Potts in the stage musical Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in London's West End. In the same year, he appeared in the play Brand, starring Ralph Fiennes.
Television and Voice Acting
In March 2004, Oliver appeared in an episode of the TV comedy series Black Books. He played a young customer. In April 2004, he took the part of Tom Dawson in an episode of Murder in Suburbia. Later in 2004, he provided the voice of Xath in the English version of the animated puppet movie Strings.
In June 2008, Oliver was featured in a BBC Three TV documentary called Child Stars. This show highlighted talented young people. However, Oliver decided to focus on his tennis career instead of continuing acting.

Personal Life
