Oliver Golding (born 29 September 1993) is a British former professional tennis player and child actor. He showed great promise in junior tennis, reaching a world junior ranking of number two. He also became the 2011 U.S. Open Boys' Champion.
Oliver Golding is a Youth Olympic Games gold medalist. He won gold in the boys' doubles event in tennis at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics. His partner was Czech player Jiří Veselý. They also reached the final in the boys' doubles at the 2010 U.S. Open.

Oliver Golding's Tennis Journey
Starting Out in Tennis
In 2004, Oliver Golding began playing tennis at the Esporta Riverside Club in Chiswick. Later that year, he visited Wimbledon. This was part of a special program called "Ariel Champions of the Future." There, he met famous former tennis players Martina Navratilova and Todd Woodbridge.
On 27 November 2005, Oliver played in the first-ever Aberdeen Cup tennis match. He was chosen to play for England in a junior match. He beat Scotland's Scott Lister, helping to even the score. People said he "impressed Andy Murray" during this match.
In late 2006, Oliver played in the Ariel Winter Grand Prix event. He was the fourth seeded player but lost in the semi-final.
First Tournament Wins
Oliver won his first two tournaments in 2007. On 5 August, he won the Bournemouth Open (Boys 14). He defeated David Wright in the final. On 31 December, he won the Frutina Westway Winter Tournament (16 & Under). He beat Alexander Wilton in that final match.
Oliver also received a £2,000 grant from "Tennis First." This charity helps young players reach their full potential. He also got tennis gear from the company Fred Perry. On 5 April 2008, Oliver won the Rickmansworth Junior Tournament (18 & Under Boys Singles).
Oliver won his first international junior tournament in July 2008. It was the Grade 5 Scottish International ITF doubles competition. He partnered with Nick Jones. He became the top British junior player in late 2009.
Junior Success and Olympic Gold
In 2010, Oliver reached the semi-finals in the junior boys' singles at Wimbledon. He even beat the world's number one junior player, Jason Kubler, along the way.
At the Youth Olympics, Oliver had a big win. He beat the world's number one and Junior Wimbledon champion, Márton Fucsovics, in the first round of singles. He then won a gold medal in the boys' doubles with his Czech partner Jiří Veselý. This amazing win moved him into the top 20 of the ITF boys' world rankings.
At the 2010 US Open, Oliver teamed up with Jiří Veselý again for boys' doubles. They made it to the final but lost. In September 2011, Oliver won the US Open boys' singles title. This achievement helped him reach his highest junior ranking of number two in the world.

Professional Career and Break
In 2011, Oliver was given a special entry to play at the Aegon Championships in London. This was his first non-junior event. He lost in the first round.
At the French Open, Oliver reached the Boys' Singles quarter-finals. He also reached the quarter-finals of the Boys' doubles with Jiří Veselý. At the Wimbledon Championships, he reached the final of the boys' doubles with Jiří Veselý. They lost in a close match.
Oliver partnered Liam Broady at the boys' doubles at the 2011 U.S. Open. They were beaten in the quarter-finals. In the boys' Singles at the 2011 U.S. Open, Oliver won the final. He defeated Jiří Veselý in three sets. Oliver finished the 2011 season with a world junior ranking of 3.
During 2012, Oliver mostly played on the Futures tour. He won two tournaments and reached one other final. He made his first appearance on the main ATP Tour at the 2012 Aegon Championships. He also played in his first Grand Slam at Wimbledon. He lost both of these matches.
In August 2014, Oliver announced he was taking a break from professional tennis. He felt he was just "going through the motions." He also mentioned changes in tennis support programs in the UK. He felt he would need to move to France to continue playing top-level tennis. However, he did not want to move because he disliked traveling. By 2015, Oliver was helping out at his mother's tennis coaching school.
In August 2017, Oliver made a short return to tennis. He won an ITF Futures tournament in Italy. He defeated Davide Galoppini in the final. In the first round, he beat the top-seeded player Yaraslav Shyla. After this, he reached the final of his next Futures event in Nottingham.

Oliver Golding's Education
Oliver Golding went to Newland House School. This is a private school in Twickenham, south west London.
He also received support from Ganeass Educational Support Services from 2003 to 2010. During this time, he earned five GCSEs by age 14. He then completed three A levels before he turned 17.
Oliver Golding's Acting Career
Oliver Golding's first appearance was in a TV commercial for Vauxhall Motors in 1996. He was just a two-year-old baby. After a small part in a stage play, his next TV role was in 1998. He played Nat in the first two episodes of the wartime drama Coming Home. This show starred Keira Knightley.
Oliver's first movie was All or Nothing in 2002. It was a comedy-drama by Mike Leigh. His biggest movie role came in The Adventures of Greyfriars Bobby. This film tells the story of Greyfriars Bobby, a child who takes care of a policeman's dog after the policeman dies. The child has to fight to save the dog's life. The movie was released in 2005.
In 2003, Oliver played Jeremy Potts in the stage show Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. This was in London's West End. In the same year, he appeared in the play Brand by Henrik Ibsen. This play starred Ralph Fiennes.
In March 2004, Oliver appeared in the TV comedy series Black Books. He played a young customer in an episode. In April of the same year, he played Tom Dawson in an episode of Murder in Suburbia. In 2004, he also provided the voice of Xath in the English version of the animated puppet movie Strings.
In June 2008, Oliver was featured in a BBC Three TV documentary called Child Stars. This show looked at three talented young people. However, Oliver decided to focus on his tennis career instead of acting.

Oliver Golding lives in London with his partner, Marta Sirotkina. She is also a former tennis professional and now a tennis coach.
