Ormeau is a town and suburb located in the northern part of the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. It's known as a "hinterland" town, meaning it's inland from the coast. In 2021, about 15,938 people called Ormeau home.

Exploring Ormeau's Location
Ormeau is found in the northern Gold Coast area. It is about 41 kilometres (25 miles) north of Surfers Paradise. It is also about 49 kilometres (30 miles) south of Brisbane, the capital city of Queensland.
The northern edge of Ormeau touches Yatala. Its southern border is the Pimpama River.
Cupania Neighbourhood
Within Ormeau, there is a neighbourhood called Cupania. It was officially named on 5 October 1991. The name comes from the Cupaniopsis anacardioides tree. This type of tree was planted in the area.
A Look at Ormeau's History
The name "Ormeau" comes from Ormeau House. This was the estate of Major Alexander Jenyns Boyd. He was a sugar planter in the 1860s. His first wife, Isabella, was born on Ormeau Road in Belfast, Ulster, Ireland. The word ormeau is French. It means "young elm" tree.
Early Schools in Ormeau
The first school in the area was Podinga Provisional School. It opened on 5 August 1878. In 1892, its name changed to Ormeau Provisional School. On 1 January 1909, it became Ormeau State School. This school is now located within the suburb of Pimpama.
Ormeau Upper State School opened on 3 February 1919. It closed around 1933.
Toogoolawa School opened its doors on 26 September 2001.
Livingstone Christian College welcomed students in January 2002.
Lutheran Ormeau Rivers District School (LORDS) began on 23 January 2006.
Norfolk Village State School opened on 1 January 2009. It started with 430 students. It was first planned to be called Cupania State School.
Ormeau Woods State High School also opened on 1 January 2009. It was originally going to be named Ormeau State High School.
Mother Teresa Catholic Primary School opened in 2011. It started with 54 students from Prep to Year 3.

Ormeau has grown a lot over the years. In 2021, the suburb had 15,938 people. The average age of people in Ormeau was 33 years old. This is a bit younger than the average age for all of Australia.

- Mother Teresa Catholic Primary School is a Catholic primary school for Prep to Year 6 students. You can find it at 169 Eggersdorf Road.
- Livingstone Christian College is a private school that teaches students from Prep all the way to Year 12. It is located at 62 Reedmans Road.
- Toogoolawa School is a private school for boys from Year 2 to Year 10. It is located off Service Road, Pacific Highway.
- Ormeau Woods State High School is a government high school for students from Year 7 to Year 12. It is on Goldmine Road. In 2018, it had over 1,200 students.
It's interesting to note that Ormeau State School and Lutheran Ormeau Rivers District School (LORDS) are not actually in Ormeau. They are in the nearby suburb of Pimpama.

Community Services
The Gold Coast City Council offers a mobile library service. This library on wheels visits Ormeau every two weeks. It stops at four different places:
- The corner of Eggersdorf and Stewarts Road
- Peachey Road
- Reedmans Road, between Toogoolawa and Livingstone schools
- Norfolk Park at Halfway Drive
Sports and Fun
Ormeau is home to several sports teams:
- The Ormeau Shearers are the local rugby league club. They play their home games at Ormeau Oval.
- The Ormeau Bulldogs are the local Australian Rules Football (AFL) team. They have teams for both juniors and adults (over 35s). Two new ovals for the Bulldogs opened in 2014.
- The Ormeau All Stars Football Club was started in 2013. It provides a local soccer club for the community. The All Stars play their home games at Norfolk Park in Ormeau.
Getting Around Ormeau
Ormeau has its own train station, Ormeau railway station. It is part of the Gold Coast Line. This makes it easy for people to travel to other parts of the Gold Coast and Brisbane by train.
