Palézieux was first mentioned in old writings in the year 1134. Back then, it was known as de Palaisol.
The Old Castle and Bridge
A powerful family called de Palézieux lived here around 1154. They had a castle near the village. You can still see parts of the castle walls today. This castle was important because it controlled a bridge over the Broye River. People had to pay money to cross the bridge. This made the family rich.
In 1700, a big flood washed away the bridge. People asked for a new bridge for many years. Finally, it was rebuilt in 1750. The bridge has been updated over time and is still used today.
How Railways Changed Palézieux
A new part of the village, Palézieux-Gare, grew because of trains. In 1862, a railway line opened between Lausanne and Bern. This line was built away from the old village. The old village then became known as Palézieux-Village.
