Park Jin-young (Hangul: 박진영; born December 13, 1971), also known as J. Y. Park or JYP, is a famous South Korean singer, songwriter, and record producer. He is also a record executive and a judge on reality TV shows. Park became well-known as a singer after releasing his first album, Blue City, in 1994. In 1997, he started JYP Entertainment, which became one of the biggest entertainment companies in South Korea.
As the leader of JYP Entertainment from 1997 to 2011, Park helped many successful K-pop artists become stars. These include groups like Wonder Girls, 2PM, Miss A, Got7, Twice, Stray Kids, Itzy, and Nmixx. He also worked with Rain, a very popular solo artist. JYP Entertainment also launched groups in other countries, like Boy Story in China and NiziU in Japan.

Early Life and School
Park Jin-young was born in Seoul, South Korea. When he was nine, he moved to New York with his mother for three years. His father was a news reporter working in the U.S. After living in New York, Park returned to Seoul for high school.
He later went to Yonsei University. While studying there, he released his first two music albums. He earned a degree in geology in 1996. Park also has an older sister.
Music Career
Park first started in a boy group called "Park Jin Young and the NG (New Generation)". Their first album was not very successful. Park became famous in the Korean music world in 1994. He debuted as a solo artist with the song "Don't Leave Me" from his album Blue City. Around this time, he met Bang Si-hyuk, a composer he would work with for a long time.
In 1997, Park started his own company, JYP Entertainment. It was first known as Tae-Hong Planning Corp. That same year, he helped prepare a five-member group called g.o.d for their debut. g.o.d became one of the most popular groups in the early 2000s. This success made Park and Bang well-known for creating hit songs.
Expanding to the U.S.
In 2004, Park became the first Asian producer to work in the American music industry. He produced music for famous artists like Will Smith, Mase, and Cassie.
Special Projects and Hit Songs
In 2008, Park worked with Jackie Chan on the "I Love Asia Project". They created the song "Smile Again" to help raise money for people affected by an earthquake in China. Many Korean stars, including actors, singers, and even figure skater Kim Yuna, were part of this song.
In 2009, Park made history with RAINSTONE. They became the first Korean songwriters to have a song on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. This was with the Wonder Girls' hit song "Nobody".
Park continued to release his own music. In 2011, he released "Someone Else" with Brown Eyed Girls' Ga-In. This song was very popular and sold over a million copies. In 2012, his song "You're the One" also sold over 1.5 million copies.
In 2015, Park released "Who's Your Mama?" featuring Lucky J's Jessi. The song became a big hit in Korea. He also performed with comedian Yoo Jae-suk at the Infinite Challenge Yeongdong Expressway Music Festival.
In 2016, Park released the song 'Still Alive'. He also appeared on the TV show Conan in Korea with Conan O'Brien. They recorded a song called 'Fire' with Steven Yeun and Park Ji-min. Park also produced the song 'Shut Up' for the TV show Sister's Slam Dunk. This song was very successful. Later that year, he produced "Very Very Very" for the girl group I.O.I. This song also topped the Korean music charts.
In 2019, Park released 'Fever' featuring Superbee and BIBI. In 2020, he released his autobiography, Live for What?. He also released a popular duet called "When We Disco" with Sunmi. This song reached number 3 on the Korean charts.
In 2021, Park and Psy, the founder of P Nation, worked together on a TV show called Loud. They each formed a new boy group on the show. In 2022, Park released the single "Groove Back". He also held his first solo concert in Japan in seven years in 2023.
In 2024, a TV special celebrated Park's 30th anniversary since his debut. It featured many artists he worked with, like g.o.d, Rain, Sunmi, 2PM, and Twice. Park Jin-young is also holding a special concert called "Still JYP" to celebrate this milestone.
Acting
Park Jin-young also tried acting. In 2011, he made his acting debut in the TV show Dream High. He was even nominated for an award for his role. He appeared in the sequel, Dream High 2, in 2012.
In 2012, Park also starred in his first movie, Five Million Dollar Man. He played a character named Choi Young In.
Personal Life
Park Jin-young got married in 1999. He later remarried in 2013. He has two children. In 2019, he wrote a song called "This Small Hand" for his daughter. The money from this song went to the Green Umbrella Foundation to help children in need.
Park is a Christian and leads Bible study groups every week. He found his faith in Christianity after searching for something to fill a "void in his heart."
Helping Others
Park Jin-young is also known for his charity work. In December 2022, he donated money to two organizations: Samsung Seoul Hospital and World Vision. World Vision is a group that helps people in need around the world. In December 2023, he donated more money to five hospitals in South Korea. This money helped provide treatment for children who were not able to afford it.
