Pregny-Chambésy is a small town, also called a commune, in the canton of Geneva in Switzerland. It is located just north of the big city of Geneva. You can find it on the southwestern shore of Lake Geneva, which is a beautiful lake.

Many international offices and missions are in Pregny-Chambésy. This is because it is very close to most of the United Nations organizations and the Geneva International Airport.

History of Pregny-Chambésy

Early Mentions and Rulers

Pregny was first written about in the year 1113, and Chambésy in 1277. For a long time, from 1353 to 1536, the area was ruled by the County of Savoy and then the Duchy of Savoy.

In 1536, another group called Bern took control. But in 1567, Savoy got the area back.

Joining Geneva and Switzerland

Later, in 1590, the Republic of Geneva took over Pregny-Chambésy. Then, in 1601, France conquered it.

Finally, in 1815, Pregny-Chambésy became part of the canton of Geneva. This meant it also joined the country of Switzerland. Before 1960, the town was simply known as Pregny.

Land Use and Location

Pregny-Chambésy covers an area of about 3.24 square kilometers (1.25 square miles). A part of this land, about 15.4%, is used for farming. Forests cover about 13.3% of the area.

Most of the land, about 70.7%, has buildings or roads on it. A small part, less than 1%, is made up of rivers or lakes.

The town is located about 3 kilometers (1.9 miles) from Geneva. It sits on the right side of Lake Geneva.

Originally, Pregny-Chambésy was made up of the village of Pregny. It also included the small hamlets of Chambésy-Dessus and Chambésy-Dessous. There was also a settlement called Roilbot.

Pregny-Chambésy has a population of about 3,589 people. Almost half of the people living here, about 49.2%, are foreign nationals. This means they are from other countries.

School System
