Early Life
Sebastian Bach was born in the Bahamas and grew up in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. He is one of eight children. His brother, Zac Bierk, used to be a professional ice hockey player.
His father, David Bierk, was a well-known painter. He even painted the covers for some of Skid Row's albums and Sebastian's solo records. Sebastian felt happy listening to his mother and aunt sing at home. This helped him feel confident about his own singing voice.
When he was eight, he joined a church choir. He loved singing "Gloria in Excelsis Deo" with them. He knew then that he wanted to sing for the rest of his life.
Music Career
Starting with Kid Wikkid (1983–1985)
At just 14 years old, Sebastian auditioned for a band called Kid Wikkid in Peterborough, Ontario. He got the job as their singer. The band later moved to Toronto, and Sebastian's father allowed him to live with his aunt there.
Joining Skid Row (1987–1996)
Skid Row was looking for a new singer in 1987. Sebastian was seen singing at a rock photographer's wedding by Jon Bon Jovi's parents. They suggested he contact Dave Sabo, who was forming a band. Sebastian was careful about joining another band, but after hearing Skid Row's demo songs, he flew to New Jersey. He auditioned and became their lead singer in early 1987.
Skid Row became very popular in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Their first two albums, Skid Row (1989) and Slave to the Grind (1991), sold millions of copies. Slave to the Grind even reached number one on the Billboard 200 chart. Their third album, Subhuman Race (1995), was also well-liked by critics.
Sebastian left the band in 1996 after some disagreements. There were rumors that he didn't want to open for the band Kiss, while other band members wanted to. This led to a disagreement between Sebastian and the other members, and he left Skid Row.
Broadway and Other Projects (1996–2006)
After leaving Skid Row, Sebastian explored other projects. In 1996, he joined a group called The Last Hard Men. They recorded an album, and also covered the Alice Cooper song "School's Out" for the movie Scream.
In 1999, Sebastian released his first solo album, Bring 'Em Bach Alive!. It featured live versions of Skid Row songs and five new studio tracks.
In 2000, Sebastian started performing on Broadway. He played the main roles in Jekyll & Hyde. He also appeared in The Rocky Horror Show in 2001. In 2002, he played the main role in the touring show Jesus Christ Superstar.
A live performance DVD called Forever Wild was released in 2004. From 2003 to 2007, Sebastian had a recurring role on the TV show Gilmore Girls. He played Gil, the lead guitarist in a band called Hep Alien.
In 2006, Sebastian joined Axl Rose and Guns N' Roses on stage several times to sing the song "My Michelle". This showed that their friendship had been renewed after many years.
Reality TV and Angel Down (2006–2010)
Sebastian starred in the 2006 VH1 reality show Supergroup. In the show, he and other famous musicians lived together and formed a new heavy metal band called Damnocracy.
In 2007, Sebastian released his solo album Angel Down. He also sang backing vocals for a song on Guns N' Roses' album Chinese Democracy. In 2008, he toured with the bands Poison and Dokken.
He also competed on the MTV reality show Celebrity Rap Superstar in 2007, finishing in third place. In 2008, he won the CMT reality show Gone Country.
Kicking & Screaming and Touring (2010–2012)
Sebastian toured with Guns N' Roses again in 2009–2010. In 2011, he was interviewed by the band Asking Alexandria, who were fans of Skid Row. He also performed with them live.
In 2010, Sebastian voiced Prince Triton in an episode of SpongeBob SquarePants called "SpongeBob and the Clash of Triton". His solo album Kicking & Screaming was released in 2011.
Big Noize (2012–2013)
In 2012, Sebastian became the singer for Big Noize, an "all-star" band. This group included famous musicians like Vinny Appice and Carlos Cavazo. They toured in South America in 2013.
Give 'Em Hell and More Tours (2013–2023)
In 2013, Sebastian announced he was working on a new solo album. He worked with famous guitarists like John 5, Duff McKagan, and Steve Stevens. The album, Give 'Em Hell, was released in 2014. He also appeared in two episodes of Trailer Park Boys that year.
In 2019, Sebastian toured to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Skid Row's first album, playing the entire album live. In 2021, he announced another tour for the 30th anniversary of Skid Row's Slave to the Grind.
Child Within the Man (2023–Present)
In 2023, Sebastian competed on season ten of The Masked Singer as "Tiki". He released his first new song in almost ten years, "What Do I Got to Lose?", in December 2023.
In March 2024, Sebastian announced his new album, Child Within the Man, which was released on May 10.
Personal Life
Sebastian Bach used to live in Red Bank, New Jersey. In 2011, his home was damaged by Hurricane Irene. Luckily, many of his valuable music items, like Skid Row master tapes and his father's art, were saved.
Sebastian married Maria Aquinar in 1992, and they had two sons, Paris and London, and a daughter, Sebastiana. They later separated. In 2010, he started dating model Minnie Gupta, and they were engaged for a while.
In 2014, Sebastian became engaged to Suzanne Le, and they married in August 2015. They now live in Los Angeles. In 2017, Sebastian had surgery for a hernia, which he said was needed because he "screamed [his] guts out" while singing.
