Shawbury is a village and civil parish in Shropshire, England. A civil parish is a local government area. The village is about 8 miles (13 km) northeast of Shrewsbury. It is also about 12 miles (19 km) northwest of Telford.
Shawbury is located on the A53 main road. This road connects Shrewsbury and Market Drayton. The closest train station is Yorton. You can catch trains there to Shrewsbury or Crewe. In 2011, the population of the entire Shawbury civil parish was 2,872 people.

History of Shawbury
Shawbury is mentioned in the Domesday Book from 1085. This was a very important survey of England. In the book, Shawbury was called Sawesberie. The main landowner was Gerard, who worked for Earl Roger of Shrewsbury. The survey also noted that Shawbury had a church and a mill.
Geography and Weather
The River Roden flows right through the village. The village of Moreton Corbet is just north of Shawbury. You can find the historic Moreton Corbet Castle there.
Shawbury is home to the main weather station for Shropshire. This station is located at the RAF base. In December 1981, a very cold temperature was recorded here. It was -25.2 °C, which is one of the coldest ever in England.

Shawbury has its own electoral ward. An electoral ward is an area that elects local representatives. This ward covers Shawbury and a lot of the surrounding area. In 2011, the total population of this ward was 4,666 people.
Important Places in Shawbury
There has been a church in Shawbury for a very long time. Records show a church existed here since at least the 12th century. The church building you see today is not that old, but it stands on the same historic spot.
Many air force members from RAF Shawbury are buried in the churchyard. RAF Shawbury is an air station that started in 1917. The churchyard has 32 graves looked after by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Three of these are from World War I and 29 are from World War II. There are also 7 Polish Air Force members buried here from World War II.
The village is also home to RAF Shawbury. This is a helicopter airfield for the Royal Air Force of the United Kingdom. It is also where the Defence Helicopter Flying School is located. This school trains pilots for all three military services. Air traffic control training also happens here.
Famous People from Shawbury
- Thomas Charles (1755-1814) was a Calvinistic Methodist minister. He helped found the British and Foreign Bible Society. He worked in Shawbury from 1783 to 1784.
- William Hazledine (born 1763–1840) was an English ironmaster. He was a pioneer in casting iron for buildings. He made iron parts for canal aqueducts and early suspension bridges.
- Lieutenant-General Sir Richard Butler (1870-1935) was a British Army general during World War I. He lived in retirement at Roden Lodge in Shawbury, where he passed away.

Shawbury has a bus service. The 64 route, run by Arriva Midlands North, serves the village. This bus route goes between Shrewsbury and Market Drayton.
