Sheffield is found in the northwest part of Caledonia County. It shares borders with other towns. To the north is Barton. To the east is Sutton. Wheelock is to the south, and Glover is to the west.
The United States Census Bureau says Sheffield covers about 84.9 square kilometers (32.8 square miles). Most of this area, about 84.2 square kilometers (32.5 square miles), is land. A small part, 0.7 square kilometers (0.27 square miles), is water.
Roads and Travel in Sheffield
Interstate 91 goes through Sheffield. This highway leads north to Newport and south to St. Johnsbury. There are no exits for Sheffield directly on I-91.
Vermont Route 122 also runs through the town. It generally follows I-91. This route goes northwest towards Glover and Barton. It also goes southeast to Lyndonville. The small, unofficial village of Sheffield is in the southern part of the town, right along Route 122.
Sheffield's Highest Point
The highest spot in Sheffield is an unnamed mountain peak. It is in the northeast corner of the town. This peak is about 775 meters (2,543 feet) above sea level. It sits between Granby Mountain and Norris Mountain.
