South Savo facts for kids
South Savo, also known as Southern Savonia, is a beautiful region in the southeast of Finland. It's famous for being in the middle of the Finnish lake district, which means it has thousands of lakes! The biggest lake in Finland, Lake Saimaa, is right here.
South Savo shares its borders with other regions like North Savo, North Karelia, South Karelia, Kymenlaakso, Päijät-Häme, and Central Finland. The region covers a large area of about 18,768 square kilometers (7,246 square miles). As of 2019, about 142,335 people live here.
The three main towns in South Savo are Mikkeli, Savonlinna, and Pieksämäki. Mikkeli is the capital of the region.
