William Todd English (born August 29, 1960) is a famous American chef, restaurant owner, author, and TV star. He is known for his delicious food and many restaurants. Todd English has also hosted his own cooking show called Food Trip with Todd English on PBS. He even helped judge another PBS show called Cooking Under Fire.
A book called Super Chef has a chapter all about Todd English's life and career. He also works as the main chef for Delta Air Lines in the United States, helping to create tasty meals for travelers.

Early Life and Becoming a Chef
Todd English was born in Amarillo, Texas. He grew up in Sandy Springs, Georgia, and later in Branford, Connecticut. He first went to Guilford College in North Carolina on a baseball scholarship. But he soon realized his true passion was cooking!
In 1978, he decided to follow his dream and joined the Culinary Institute of America. He worked very hard and graduated in 1982.
Learning from the Best
After culinary school, Todd English learned from some of the best chefs. He worked with Jean-Jacques Rachou at a famous restaurant in New York called La Cote Basque. Then, he traveled to Italy to gain more experience in different restaurants there.
When he was 25, he came back to the United States. He became the head chef at an Italian restaurant named Michela's in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He worked there for three years before opening his very first restaurant, Olives, in 1989.

Todd English was married to Olivia Disch English, who was also his classmate at the Culinary Institute of America. They have three children together.

Todd English is famous for opening many different kinds of restaurants. Each one offers a unique dining experience.
Olives Restaurants
Olives was Todd English's very first restaurant. It opened in the Charlestown area of Boston in April 1989. The name "Olives" was a special tribute to his former wife, Olivia.
The food at Olives is inspired by "rustic Mediterranean" cooking, with a strong influence from Italian cuisine. The restaurant quickly became popular. Boston magazine named it the Best New Restaurant. Gourmet magazine also praised it for its amazing food.
Olives became well-known for two special desserts: a warm molten chocolate cake and a light vanilla bean soufflé. You had to order these desserts when you ordered your main meal!
Over the years, Olives opened in many different places:
- In October 1998, Olives opened in the Bellagio hotel in Las Vegas, but it closed in 2019.
- In May 2010, the Charlestown Olives had to close because of a fire. This was not the first time it had fire damage.
- The Charlestown Olives reopened in May 2012, but then closed for good in June 2013.
- Another Olives opened in 2001 in New York City, but it closed in 2015.
- In February 2013, Olives opened in Mexico City.
- Today, you can find Olives at the Atlantis Resort in the Nassau, Bahamas, and at the Ritz-Carlton Canal in Abu Dhabi.
- In 2021, a new Olives restaurant opened in Virgin Hotels Las Vegas.
Figs Pizzerias
Figs is the name of Todd English's pizzerias. There were two Figs locations in the Boston area: one in Beacon Hill and another in Charlestown (which is now closed).
Figs serves authentic Neapolitan-style pizzas. These pizzas have very thin crusts and are served on special inverted sheet pans. Figs also offers fresh salads and delicious pastas. The restaurant won a "Hot Concept" award from Nation's Restaurant News magazine.
