William Todd English (born August 29, 1960) is a famous American chef, restaurant owner, author, and TV star. He is known for his restaurants and cooking shows, like Food Trip with Todd English on PBS. In 2005, he was a judge on the TV show Cooking Under Fire.
Todd English is a well-known chef. He was even featured in a book called Super Chef and on Forbes magazine's list of famous people. He also helps create meals for Delta Air Lines.

Early Life and Becoming a Chef
Todd English was born in Amarillo, Texas. He grew up in Sandy Springs, Georgia and later in Branford, Connecticut. He first went to Guilford College on a baseball scholarship. But he decided to follow his passion for cooking instead.
In 1978, he joined the Culinary Institute of America, a famous cooking school. He graduated in 1982. After school, he worked with a well-known chef named Jean-Jacques Rachou in New York. Then, he moved to Italy to learn more about cooking there.
When he was 25, Todd English came back to the United States. He became the head chef at an Italian restaurant called Michela's in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He worked there for three years. In 1989, he opened his very first restaurant, Olives.

Todd English was married to Olivia Disch English. She was also his classmate at the Culinary Institute of America. They later divorced and have three children together.

Todd English is famous for opening many different restaurants. He has created places that serve all kinds of food.
Olives: His First Restaurant
Olives was Todd English's first restaurant. It opened in Charlestown, Boston, in April 1989. He named the restaurant Olives as a tribute to his former wife, Olivia. The food at Olives was "rustic Mediterranean." This means it had simple, hearty dishes from countries around the Mediterranean Sea. It was also strongly influenced by Italian cuisine.
Boston magazine named Olives the Best New Restaurant. Gourmet magazine also praised it for its food. Olives was known for two special desserts. These were a molten chocolate cake and a vanilla bean soufflé. You had to order these desserts when you ordered your main meal!
Over the years, Olives opened in other places too:
- In October 1998, Olives opened in the Bellagio hotel in Las Vegas. It closed in 2019.
- In May 2010, the Charlestown Olives closed because of a grease fire. This was not the first time fire caused damage there.
- The Charlestown Olives reopened in May 2012.
- However, in June 2013, the Charlestown Olives closed for good.
- Another Olives opened in 2001 in New York City. It closed in 2015.
- In February 2013, Olives opened in Mexico City.
- Today, you can find Olives at the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas. There is also one at the Ritz-Carlton Canal in Abu Dhabi.
- In 2021, a new Olives opened in Virgin Hotels Las Vegas.
Figs: Delicious Pizza Places
Figs is the name of Todd English's pizzerias. There were two in the Boston area. One was in Beacon Hill, and another in Charlestown (which is now closed). Figs serves real Neapolitan-style pizzas. These pizzas have very thin crusts. They are served on special inverted sheet pans. Figs also offers tasty salads and pastas. Nation's Restaurant News magazine gave Figs a "Hot Concept" award.
