Life and Music Career

Early Life and Training

Tzuyu was born in Tainan, Taiwan. She loved dancing from a young age. She trained at a dance academy to improve her skills.

In 2012, talent scouts found Tzuyu at a dance workshop in Tainan. She then moved to South Korea in November 2012 to become a trainee. In 2015, Tzuyu joined a South Korean TV show called Sixteen. This show was made by JYP Entertainment to find members for a new girl group. Tzuyu was one of nine people chosen to join the group, which became Twice.

It was the first K-pop debut song to get 100 million views on YouTube. Tzuyu has also hosted many music shows in South Korea. As a solo artist, she released covers of "Me!" by Taylor Swift and "Christmas Without You" by Ava Max. These were part of her "Melody Project" series.

Other Activities

Advertisements and Brands

Tzuyu has appeared in many advertisements by herself. These include ads for companies like LG U+ and Crocs Korea. She was also on the cover of L'Officiel Malaysia magazine in October 2021. She modeled for the Coach Fall/Winter 2021 collection.

In January 2022, Tzuyu became the new face for the South Korean clothing brand Zooc. In October 2022, she was announced as the face of Visée. This is a very popular cosmetics brand in Japan. In October 2023, she became a global ambassador for the Pond's Skin Institute.

Helping Others

On February 29, 2020, Tzuyu donated 50 million South Korean won. This money went to the South Korean Community Chest. It helped prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Personal Life

In 2016, Tzuyu passed an exam to finish her middle school education in Tainan. She then went to high school at Hanlim Multi Art School in South Korea. She graduated in February 2019 with her bandmate Chaeyoung.

In 2024, Tzuyu shared that she had earned a master's degree in applied psychology. She studied online for over a year at Miguel de Cervantes European University in Spain. She explained that she had more time to study when Twice's group activities slowed down during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A Public Incident

In November 2015, Tzuyu appeared on a Korean TV show called My Little Television. She introduced herself as Taiwanese and held the flag of the Republic of China (Taiwan). She also held the flag of South Korea. Some people online from mainland China were upset by this. Because of this, Twice was not allowed on Chinese television for a short time. Tzuyu also lost an advertising deal with a Chinese company.

Her agency, JYP Entertainment, later released a video of Tzuyu apologizing. She said she was proud to be Chinese and was sorry for any upset caused. This apology caused a lot of discussion in Taiwan. Many people felt it was important, especially around the time of the 2016 Taiwanese general election. Some studies suggested that Tzuyu's video might have influenced many young voters.

After this, JYP Entertainment said they would create new rules. These rules would help protect their artists from similar problems in the future. They started giving their artists and staff training about different cultures. This training included understanding political differences between countries.
