Personal Life

In 2024, Tzuyu shared that she had earned a master's degree in applied psychology. She studied online for over a year at Miguel de Cervantes European University in Spain. She explained that she had more time to study when Twice's group activities slowed down during the COVID-19 pandemic.
A Public Incident
In November 2015, Tzuyu appeared on a Korean TV show called My Little Television. She introduced herself as Taiwanese and held the flag of the Republic of China (Taiwan). She also held the flag of South Korea. Some people online from mainland China were upset by this. Because of this, Twice was not allowed on Chinese television for a short time. Tzuyu also lost an advertising deal with a Chinese company.
Her agency, JYP Entertainment, later released a video of Tzuyu apologizing. She said she was proud to be Chinese and was sorry for any upset caused. This apology caused a lot of discussion in Taiwan. Many people felt it was important, especially around the time of the 2016 Taiwanese general election. Some studies suggested that Tzuyu's video might have influenced many young voters.
After this, JYP Entertainment said they would create new rules. These rules would help protect their artists from similar problems in the future. They started giving their artists and staff training about different cultures. This training included understanding political differences between countries.
