Vaulruz is a charming town located in the Gruyère district of the Fribourg canton in Switzerland. It's a small community with a rich history and beautiful natural surroundings. The town is known for its peaceful atmosphere and its connection to the famous Gruyère region.

History of Vaulruz

Vaulruz has a long and interesting past. The town was first mentioned in official documents way back in 1115. At that time, it was known by the name Valle Rodulphi. Later, in 1303, it was referred to as Vaulruz, which is the name we use today.

Vaulruz covers an area of about 10.2 square kilometers (3.9 square miles). A large part of this land, about 64%, is used for farming. This means you'll see many fields and pastures around the town. About 26% of the area is covered by forests, offering beautiful green spaces.

The town itself, including buildings and roads, takes up about 8.9% of the land. A small part, about 0.4%, includes rivers and lakes. Most of the water in Vaulruz is flowing water, like streams and small rivers.

Vaulruz is located in the Gruyère district. It sits along the road that connects the towns of Bulle and Châtel-Saint-Denis. The municipality includes the main village of Vaulruz and several smaller hamlets.

The official symbol of Vaulruz is its coat of arms. It shows a red shield with a wavy silver line at the bottom. Above this line, there are three green pine trees with brown trunks. Education for Kids

The school system in the Canton of Fribourg starts with one year of non-required Kindergarten. After that, students go to Primary school for six years. Then comes three years of lower Secondary school, where students are grouped by their abilities. After lower Secondary, students can choose to go to an optional upper Secondary school for three or four years. This can be a gymnasium (which prepares students for university) or a vocational program (which teaches skills for specific jobs). After upper Secondary, students can continue their education at a university or start an apprenticeship.

During the 2010-2011 school year, Vaulruz had 98 students attending classes in the town. There was one kindergarten class and four primary classes. While there were no lower secondary classes in Vaulruz itself, 49 students from the town attended lower secondary school in a nearby municipality. Students also traveled to other towns for upper secondary and higher education.

In 2000, 18 students came to Vaulruz for school from other municipalities, and 67 residents of Vaulruz went to schools outside the town.
