Wright is a small city in Carlton County, Minnesota, United States. In 2020, about 168 people lived there. Minnesota State Highway 210 is the main road that goes through Wright.

Wright is located about 28 miles west of Cloquet. It is also 6 miles west of Cromwell. The city is about 47 miles west-southwest of Duluth.

History of Wright

A post office opened in Wright in 1892. The city was named after George Burdick Wright. He was a land agent who helped people buy and sell land.

Geography and Location

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city of Wright covers about 1.55 square miles (3.79 square kilometers) of land. There is no water area within the city limits.

Wright is located near the borders of three different counties. The line between Carlton and Aitkin counties is very close. The border between Carlton and Saint Louis counties is also nearby.

Wright experiences a wide range of temperatures throughout the year. Summers are generally warm, while winters are very cold. The area gets a good amount of rain, especially in the summer months. Snowfall is common during the winter.

Wright hosts a fun yearly festival called "Wrong Days in Wright". It takes place on the third weekend of July.

The festival has many exciting activities:

  • On Friday, there is a steak fry, fireworks, and a dance for teens.
  • Saturday features a parade, a large meal called a smorgasbord, a softball tournament for mixed teams, and a horseshoe tournament. There is also a craft show and a dance for adults.
  • On Sunday morning, everyone can enjoy a pancake breakfast.
