Yussuf Yurary Poulsen (born 15 June 1994) is a Danish professional footballer. He plays as a forward for the German club RB Leipzig and the Denmark national team. Sometimes, he uses Yurary on his shirt.
Yussuf started his career with Lyngby. In 2013, he moved to RB Leipzig. He helped the team climb from the 3. Liga (third division) to the Bundesliga (top division) in just three seasons. He has played more games for RB Leipzig than any other player, with over 300 appearances. He has also scored more than 80 goals for the club. He played in the DFB-Pokal (German Cup) final in 2019 and 2021.
Poulsen first played for Denmark in 2014. He has played over 80 games for his country. He was part of the Danish team at the FIFA World Cup in 2018 and 2022. He also played in the UEFA European Championship in 2020 and 2024. In the 2020 tournament, his team reached the semi-finals.

Early Life and Background
Yussuf Poulsen was born in Denmark. His father was from Tanzania, and his mother was Danish. His father worked on a large ship that traveled between Tanga and Denmark. He later settled in Copenhagen. Sadly, his father passed away from cancer when Yussuf was six years old.
Club Career Highlights
Starting Out in Football
Poulsen began playing football at BK Skjold. At first, he played in defense. He had a teammate named Kenneth Zohore, who he would later play with on Denmark's youth national teams. After Zohoré joined FC Copenhagen, Poulsen changed his position to a striker.
Playing for Lyngby BK
When he was 14, Yussuf joined the youth teams at Lyngby BK. He played his first senior game on 4 December 2011. He came on as a substitute against AC Horsens. Poulsen did not play much at first. His club, Lyngby, was also moved down from the Superligaen (top Danish league).
On 5 August 2012, he scored his first goal for the senior team. This was in a game against AB Gladsaxe. He became a regular player, playing 32 matches and scoring eleven goals.
Time at RB Leipzig
Poulsen's good play caught the eye of other clubs. On 3 July 2013, he signed a contract with RB Leipzig. This German team had just been promoted to the 3. Liga (third division). He played his first game for Leipzig on 19 July 2013. They won 1–0 against Hallescher FC.
He scored his first goals for Leipzig on 24 August, scoring twice in a 2–0 win. He scored two more goals in the final game of the 2013–14 season. Leipzig won 3–1 and were promoted to the 2. Bundesliga (second division). He finished that season with 10 goals in 36 games.
In his first season in the 2. Bundesliga, Poulsen scored 12 goals in 32 games. Leipzig finished fifth. He continued to play well, helping RB Leipzig get promoted to the Bundesliga (top division) in the 2015–16 season.

On 28 August 2016, Poulsen played in RB Leipzig's first-ever Bundesliga match. He scored his first Bundesliga goal on 30 September in a 2–1 win against FC Augsburg. He finished the 2016–17 season with five goals.
On 30 March 2019, Poulsen made history for Leipzig. He scored three goals in one game (a hat-trick) against Hertha BSC. This was the first hat-trick for any Leipzig player in the Bundesliga. His goals also helped the club win its 50th Bundesliga game. He became only the third Danish player to score more than 14 Bundesliga goals in a single season. He also extended his contract with the club.
Poulsen became the first Leipzig player to play 250 games for the club on 24 May 2020. He scored in a 5–0 win against 1. FSV Mainz 05. He later had an ankle injury that kept him out for the rest of that season.
He scored five goals on the way to the 2021 DFB-Pokal final. On 28 October 2021, he played his 300th game for RB Leipzig. This was in a Champions League game against Club Brugge KV.
International Career
Yussuf Poulsen could have played for Tanzania because of his father. However, he chose to play for his home country, Denmark, as he did not receive any offers from Tanzania.
He played his first game for the Danish national team on 30 January 2013 against Mexico. On 13 June 2015, he scored his first goal for Denmark in a 2–0 win against Serbia.
Poulsen was chosen for Denmark's team for the 2016 Summer Olympics. However, he decided not to go. He wanted to focus on keeping his spot at RB Leipzig.
In May 2018, he was picked for Denmark's team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. On 16 June, he scored the only goal in their first game against Peru. He was named the best player of the match.
Poulsen was also part of the Danish team that reached the semi-finals of UEFA Euro 2020 in 2021. He scored his first goal in the European Championship in a 2–1 loss to Belgium. Four days later, he scored again in a 4–1 win over Russia. He also played for Denmark in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Personal Life
In 2015, Poulsen opened a café in Copenhagen called Social. He started it with his friends Sebastian Streit Jeppesen and Frederik Nemo Andersen. The café is known for its coffee and vegan food.
