Yussuf Yurary Poulsen (born on June 15, 1994) is a Danish professional footballer. He plays as a forward for Bundesliga club Hamburger SV. He also plays for the Denmark national team. Sometimes, he uses Yurary as his name on his shirt.
Yussuf started his career with Lyngby. In 2013, he moved to RB Leipzig. He helped them climb from the third division to the top German league, the Bundesliga, in just three seasons. He has played more than 300 games for RB Leipzig. He also scored over 80 goals for the club. He played in the DFB-Pokal final in 2019 and 2021.
Poulsen first played for Denmark's national team in 2014. He has played over 80 games for his country. He was part of the Danish team at the FIFA World Cup in 2018 and 2022. He also played in the UEFA European Championship in 2020 and 2024. In the 2020 tournament, his team reached the semi-finals.

Early Life and Football Start
Yussuf Poulsen was born in Denmark. His father was from Tanzania, and his mother was Danish. His father worked on a ship. He traveled between Tanzania and Copenhagen. Sadly, his father passed away from cancer when Yussuf was six years old.
Yussuf began playing football at BK Skjold. At first, he played in defense. Later, he moved to play as a striker, which is a forward position.
Club Career Highlights
Playing for Lyngby BK
When he was 14, Yussuf joined the youth teams of Lyngby BK. He played his first senior game on December 4, 2011. His team, Lyngby, was later moved down to a lower league. On August 5, 2012, he scored his first goal for the senior team. He became a regular player for Lyngby. He played 32 matches and scored eleven goals.
Time at RB Leipzig
Yussuf's good playing caught the eye of many clubs. On July 3, 2013, he signed with RB Leipzig. This German team had just been promoted to the 3. Liga, which is the third division. He played his first game for them on July 19, 2013. He scored his first goals for the club on August 24. He finished the 2013–14 season with 10 goals in 36 games. His team was promoted to the next league.
In his first season in the 2. Bundesliga (second division), Poulsen scored 12 goals in 32 games. His team finished fifth.

Poulsen scored seven goals in 32 games during the 2015–16 season. RB Leipzig earned promotion to the Bundesliga, the top German league. On August 28, 2016, he played in RB Leipzig's first-ever Bundesliga match. He scored his first Bundesliga goal on September 30. He finished that season with five goals in 30 games.
In the 2017–18 season, Poulsen scored five goals in 41 games. One of these goals was against Borussia Dortmund. This was Dortmund's first home defeat in 41 games.
On March 30, 2019, Yussuf scored three goals in one game against Hertha BSC. This was a special moment. It was the first time an RB Leipzig player scored a hat-trick in the Bundesliga. This also helped the club get its 50th win in the league. His 15 goals that season made him one of only three Danish players to score more than 14 Bundesliga goals in a single season. He also extended his contract with the club. His team finished second in the 2019 DFB-Pokal Final.
Poulsen became the first Leipzig player to reach 250 appearances on May 24, 2020. He scored a goal in that game. He later had an ankle injury that kept him out for the rest of that season.
He scored five goals on the way to the 2021 DFB-Pokal final. On October 28, 2021, he played his 300th match for RB Leipzig.
Move to Hamburger SV
On July 13, 2025, after 12 years with RB Leipzig, Poulsen signed with another Bundesliga club, Hamburger SV.
International Career for Denmark
Yussuf could have played for Tanzania, but he chose to play for his home country, Denmark.
He played his first game for the Danish national team on January 30, 2013. On June 13, 2015, he scored his first goal for Denmark. Poulsen was chosen for Denmark's team for the 2016 Summer Olympics. However, he decided not to go. He wanted to focus on keeping his spot at RB Leipzig.
In May 2018, he was picked for Denmark's team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. On June 16, he scored the only goal in their first game against Peru. He was named the best player of that match.
Poulsen was part of the Danish team that reached the semi-finals of UEFA Euro 2020 in 2021. He scored his first goal in the European Championship on June 17. He scored another goal four days later.
He was also part of the Danish team for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Personal Life
In 2015, Poulsen started a café in Copenhagen called Social. He opened it with his friends Sebastian Streit Jeppesen and Frederik Nemo Andersen. The café is known for its coffee and vegan food.
