Édgar Milciades Benítez Santander, born on November 8, 1987, is a talented football player from Paraguay. People often call him Pájaro, which means "bird" in Spanish. He plays as a midfielder, which is a player who helps both defend and attack on the field. Édgar has played for many different clubs and also represented his home country, Paraguay, in many important international matches. He even played in the FIFA World Cup 2010 and won the Milk Cup with Paraguay's under-20 team in 2006.

Édgar Benítez: A Football Star
Édgar Benítez is a well-known football player from Paraguay. He has had a long and successful career playing for various clubs and his national team. His journey in football began in Paraguay and later took him to Mexico and Peru.
Early Career and Club Success
Édgar started his football journey at Club 12 de Octubre in Itaugua. In 2005, he joined Libertad, a big club in Paraguay. There, he helped his team win the Paraguayan 1st division championship. Even though he often came on as a substitute, he contributed to their success.
In 2008, Édgar moved to Sol de América. He quickly became a key player for them. He was one of the team's top goal scorers, showing off his attacking skills.
Playing in Mexico
On December 1, 2008, it was announced that Benítez would play in the Mexican League for Pachuca CF. He made his first appearance for C.F. Pachuca on January 2 in the Interliga 2009 tournament. He scored his first goal for the club in a big 4–0 win.
Édgar ended that tournament as the top goal scorer with 4 goals in 4 games. His efforts helped Pachuca earn a spot in the qualifying round for the Copa Libertadores 2009. After 2009, he was often used as a substitute for Pachuca. He played regularly in their matches during the Bicentenario 2010 season.
On February 20, 2010, he started a match against Chiapas. He scored two goals in that game, helping Pachuca secure a 2–2 draw. In June 2015, Queretaro announced that Benítez would join their team for the upcoming season. He continued to play for various clubs, including Libertad again, Guaraní, Sportivo Luqueño, Alianza Lima, General Caballero JLM, and UCV. As of 2025, he plays for Rubio Ñu.
Playing for His Country: Paraguay
Édgar Benítez has also proudly represented his home country, Paraguay, in international football. He played for the Paraguay U20 team. In 2006, he scored a goal in a 2–0 victory against the USA in the Milk Cup tournament.
He played his first senior international match for the Paraguay national football team in 2008. Because of his strong performances with Sol de América, he was called up to the national team. He had a great debut, playing in a 2010 World Cup qualification match against Peru, which Paraguay won 1–0.
Édgar was part of Paraguay's team for the 2015 Copa América tournament. On June 16, 2015, he scored the only goal in a 1–0 win against Jamaica. This goal was very important for his team in the group stage. He also scored a goal for Paraguay in a 2–2 draw against Brazil. This match was part of the qualifying campaign for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
