- June 12 – The town of Rakvere in Estonia officially began.
- July 11 – A big battle called the Battle of the Golden Spurs took place. In this battle, the people of Flanders (a region in what is now Belgium) won a major victory against the French army.
- September 24 – A peace agreement was made between Charles II of Naples and Frederick III of Sicily. This agreement, called the Treaty of Caltabellotta, finally ended the long War of Sicilian Vespers.

- After the Treaty of Caltabellotta, many soldiers were out of work. A leader named Roger de Flor gathered these soldiers, known as Almogavars, to form a group called the Catalan Company. They became a powerful group of mercenaries.

- The father of another famous Italian poet, Petrarch, was also exiled from Florence around this time. These exiles were part of a larger conflict between political groups known as the Guelphs and Ghibellines.
