Wars and Conflicts
The Fall of Stirling Castle
On July 20, 1304, a very important event happened in Scotland. Edward I of England, also known as "Longshanks," captured Stirling Castle. This castle was the last place held by Scottish rebels fighting for their freedom.
This event was part of the Wars of Scottish Independence. These wars were a long fight between Scotland and England. Scotland wanted to be an independent country, but England wanted to rule it. Taking Stirling Castle was a big victory for King Edward I.
Reconquest in Spain
In Spain, James II of Aragon achieved an important victory. He was the King of Aragon, a powerful kingdom in what is now Spain. King James II successfully reconquered the city of Villena.
"Reconquer" means to take back land that was lost. This was part of a larger historical period called the Reconquista. During this time, Christian kingdoms in Spain worked to take back lands from Muslim rule.
Changes in Holland and Zeeland
The regions of Holland and Zeeland in Europe saw some changes in 1304. These areas were occupied by Duke John II of Brabant and Guy of Dampierre. They took control of these lands for a time.
However, Count John II of Hainaut soon recovered the counties. This means he took back control of Holland and Zeeland. This shows how power could change hands quickly between different rulers in medieval Europe.
