  • February 23 – This meeting, the "Bad Parliament," ended quickly.
  • June 21King Edward III of England passed away at 65 years old. He had ruled for a very long time.
  • July 16 – A new king was crowned! Richard II became king when he was only 10 years old. Imagine being king at that age!

  • May 22 – Pope Gregory XI issued five special messages, called Papal Bulls. In these messages, he spoke against some of the ideas of a thinker named John Wycliffe. Wycliffe had new thoughts about the Church.
  • A German monk wrote that "the game of cards has come to us this year." This shows that card games were becoming popular in Europe.
  • Some leaders and cities, like John of Castile and the cities of Florence and Basel, even tried to stop people from playing cards.

  • May – There were many protests and fights in Rome. Because of this, Pope Gregory XI had to leave Rome for a short time and go to a nearby town called Anagni.
  • October 18 – Andronicus IV Palaeologus was crowned emperor in Constantinople.
  • A powerful leader named Timur Lenk tried to help someone named Tokhtamish become the ruler of a group called the White Horde. But the current ruler of the White Horde defeated Tokhtamish.
  • In Egypt, the Mamluk sultan Sha'ban II was replaced by a new ruler, 'Ali II. A sultan is a powerful leader.
  • For a short time, Muhammad al-Mutawakkil I was removed as the Abbasid Caliph. A caliph was a religious and political leader in the Islamic world. Zakariyya' al-Mu'tasim took his place for a while.
  • A Church leader named Robert of Geneva, who would later become Pope Clement VII, caused a lot of trouble in northern Italy. His forces attacked a town called Cesena. About 4,000 people who were against the Pope were killed there.
