2024

The 2023 Copa Libertadores was a super exciting football tournament in South America. It was the 64th time this big competition, called the CONMEBOL Libertadores, was held. It's like the Champions League for South American club teams, organized by CONMEBOL.

The final game was played in Brazil at the famous Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro on November 4, 2023. A Brazilian team, Fluminense, won their very first Copa Libertadores title! They beat an Argentine team, Boca Juniors, 2-1 in extra time. Because they won, Fluminense got to play in other big tournaments like the 2024 Recopa Sudamericana and the 2023 and 2025 FIFA Club World Cups. They also got a spot in the 2024 Copa Libertadores group stage.

The team that won in 2022, Flamengo, didn't make it to the final this time. They were knocked out by Olimpia in the Round of 16.

Teams in the Tournament

Forty-seven (47) different teams from the 10 countries that are part of CONMEBOL got to play in the 2023 Copa Libertadores. Teams qualified in different ways:
