The year 46 AD was part of the 1st century. It was a regular year that started on a Saturday, according to the Julian calendar used back then. People in the Roman Empire often called it the "Year of the Consulship of Asiaticus and Silanus." This was because Asiaticus and Silanus were important leaders, called consuls, during that time.

What Happened in 46 AD?
Roman Empire Expands
- The region of Dobruja, which is in modern-day Romania and Bulgaria, became part of the Roman area called Moesia. This helped the Roman Empire grow even bigger.
- The Roman Empire took a count of its people, called a census. This count showed that there were more than 6 million Roman citizens!
- After its king passed away, the land of Thracia (modern-day Bulgaria and parts of Greece and Turkey) officially became a province of the Roman Empire. This meant it was directly ruled by Rome.
Challenges in Xiongnu
- Far to the east, in the land of the Xiongnu people (who lived in parts of modern Mongolia and China), there were big problems. A long period without rain, called a drought, and swarms of locusts (bugs that eat crops) caused a terrible famine. This lack of food led to a revolt among the people.
Famous People Born in 46 AD
- Plutarch: A very famous Greek historian and writer was born around this time. He wrote many important books about the lives of famous Greeks and Romans.
Notable Deaths in 46 AD
- Roimitalkes III: He was the last king of the Thracian Kingdom of Sapes. After his death, his kingdom became a Roman province.
