- The number of people living on Earth grew to about 208 million! That's a lot of people.
- A serious sickness called Smallpox reached Europe for the very first time.
- King Ingvar of Sweden tried to take over Estonia, but the people living there fought back and he was defeated.
- Some groups of Anglo-Saxons (people from what is now Germany and Denmark) arrived in England.
- In Persia (which is now Iran), people started using windmills to help water their farms. This was a clever way to use wind power for irrigation.
- A game called Chaturanga was played in India. This game is thought to be an early version of chess!
- A volcano named Loma Caldera erupted in El Salvador.
- In North America, a group of people known as the Hopewell culture started to become less powerful.
- The big city of Teotihuacán, built by the Aztecs in what is now Mexico, began to have problems and become unstable.
- A new type of plow was invented in eastern Europe. This new plow, called a moldboard plow, made farming much easier.
- Pope Gregory I wrote down special religious songs. These songs are now known as Gregorian chant.
- Work began on building the monastery of St. Catherine on Mount Sinai.
- Irish missionaries traveled to Scotland and Germany to share their beliefs.
- In Japan, artists started making sculptures of Buddha that were influenced by Chinese art.
- People on the islands of Sumatra and Java (in Southeast Asia) began to follow Buddhism.
- Augustine of Canterbury helped Ethelbert, the King of Kent in England, become a Christian.
- Rulers in Nubia (an ancient region in Africa) also became Christian around this time.
