A Look Back: AnimeNEXT's Journey
AnimeNEXT started in 2002. The first event was put together quite quickly, in about eight months.
Over the years, the convention grew a lot. In 2008, some parts of the event even took place in the parking garage! The convention then moved to the Garden State Exhibit Center. By 2012, it was so popular that lines for events stretched outside.
Because it kept growing, AnimeNEXT needed an even bigger home. So, in 2016, it moved to the Atlantic City Convention Center. This new location offered much more space for all the activities and fans.
In 2016, AnimeNEXT hosted a very important event. It was the United States finals for the World Cosplay Summit. This is a huge international cosplay competition.
AnimeNEXT 2020 had to be cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, the Atlantic City Convention Center was used as a vaccination site. Because of this, AnimeNEXT 2021 became an online-only event. The organizers planned to return to a physical event the next year.
