Atif Aslam (born March 12, 1983) is a famous Pakistani singer, songwriter, and actor. He has sung many songs for films in both Pakistan and India. Atif is known for his powerful singing style.
He started his music journey in the early 2000s. His first album was called Jal Pari. In 2005, he sang "Adaat" for the Bollywood film Kalyug. Atif mostly sings in Urdu, but also in Punjabi, Bengali, Persian, and Pashto.
Atif has performed on Coke Studio Pakistan, where his songs like "Tajdar-e-Haram" and "Wohi Khuda Hai" became very popular. In 2008, he received the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, a high civilian award from the Pakistani government. He also has several Lux Style Awards. In 2011, he started acting in the film Bol. In 2019, he received a star on the Dubai Walk of Fame. He was also listed in Forbes Asia's 100 Digital Stars in 2020.

Early Life and Education
Atif Aslam was born on March 12, 1983, in Wazirabad, Punjab. He grew up in a middle-class family. He has three brothers who have helped him with his career.
Atif went to Kimberley Hall School in Lahore until 1991. Then he moved to Rawalpindi and studied at St. Paul's Cambridge School. In 1995, he returned to Lahore and continued his studies. He later attended University of Central Punjab.
Atif shared in an interview that he wanted to be a singer from a young age. He won his first singing contest at 15. He also loved cricket and was a fast bowler. He was even chosen for the Pakistan under-19 team. However, his parents wanted him to become a doctor.
Music Career Highlights
Early Success (2003–2008)
Atif Aslam was part of the music group Jal. He released his first song "Aadat" with Goher Mumtaz. After leaving Jal, Atif released his first solo album, Jal Pari, in 2004. It quickly became a big hit.
His second album, Doorie, came out in 2006. His third album, Meri Kahani, released in 2008, was nominated for "Best Album" at the 7th Lux Style Awards. The song "Hangami Halaat" from this album was nominated for "Best Rock Song" at the 2009 MTV Music Awards.
Atif's first Bollywood song was "Woh Lamhe" from the movie Zeher in 2005. He also sang "Aadat - Juda Hoke Bhi" for Kalyug that same year. In 2006, he sang "Tere Bin" for the film Bas Ek Pal. In 2008, he recorded "Pehli Nazar Mein" for Race, which won him an IIFA Award.
Growing Fame (2009–2015)
In 2009, Atif sang "Tu Jaane Na" and "Tera Hone Laga Hoon" for the film Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani. These songs earned him many nominations.
In 2011, he sang "Le Ja Tu Mujhe" for the film F.A.L.T.U. That same year, he sang "Hona Tha Pyar" and "Kaho Aaj Bol Do" for the Pakistani film Bol, where he also acted. He recorded "Tu Muhabbat Hai" and "Piya O Re Piya" for Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya.
In 2012, Atif sang two songs for the Hollywood film The Reluctant Fundamentalist. He also performed on Coke Studio Season Five.
On April 22, 2012, Atif Aslam became the first Pakistani artist to perform at London's O2 Arena. He performed for four hours to promote peace between Pakistan and India. He also had concerts in Manchester and Glasgow. Later in 2012, he performed in Dubai, Bangkok, and Malaysia. He was named among Dubai's top performers for 2012.
Atif was the first artist from Asia allowed to perform inside the Dashrath Rangasla National Football Stadium in Kathmandu, Nepal. In April 2013, he performed at the LG Arena in Birmingham. He was also the first Asian artist to perform twice at London's O2 Arena.
His song "Main Rang Sharbaton Ka" was nominated for "Best Song" at the World Music Awards in 2014. He also sang "Tera Naam Doon" and "Nahi Woh Saamne" for the film Entertainment.
In 2015, Atif sang "Jeena Jeena" for the film Badlapur. This song was a huge hit and earned him a Filmfare award nomination. He also recorded "Dil Kare" for Ho Mann Jahaan. His rendition of "Tajdar-e-Haram" from Coke Studio Season 8 became the first Pakistani video to reach over 500 million views on YouTube.
Recent Works (2016–Present)
In 2016, Atif sang "Tere Sang Yaara" for the film Rustom, which was very popular. He also worked on four versions of "Mar Jaayen" from Loveshhuda. "Dil Dancer" from Actor in Law earned him a LUX Award for best playback singer. He collaborated with Maher Zain on "I'm Alive".
In 2017, songs like "Hoor" from Hindi Medium, "Baarish" from Half Girlfriend, and "Musafir" were released. "Dil Diyan Gallan" from Tiger Zinda Hai became a massive hit with hundreds of millions of views. He also released his first Bengali song, "Mithe Alo". Atif sang "Younhi", a song he wrote himself, on his birthday. He also performed the Pakistan National Anthem at the 16th Lux Style Awards.
In 2018, Atif released many songs, including "Dil Meri Na Sune" from Genius, "O Saathi" from Baaghi 2, and "Paniyon Sa" from Satyameva Jayate. "Tera Hua" from Loveyatri was also a big hit. His song "Thaam Lo" from Parwaaz Hai Junoon won him a LUX Award.
In 2019, "Baarishein" was released. He performed at the 18th Lux Style Awards. Coke Studio Season 12 featured his songs like "Wohi Khuda Hai".
In 2020, Atif released "Woh Mere Bin". He also recited the Azaan and "Asma-ul-Husna" for Coke Studio during the COVID-19 pandemic. "Kadi Te Hans" was released by VELO Sound Station. Atif continued to tour globally, performing at the Royal Albert Hall in London and with Sonu Nigam in Malaysia.
In 2021, Atif released "Raat" and a tribute song "Chale To Kat Hi Jayega". "Rafta Rafta" was released in July 2021. In October 2021, Coke Studio released "Cricket Khidaiye" for the T-20 World Cup.
In January 2022, Atif Aslam sang the PSL National Anthem, "Agay Dekh," with Aima Baig. His song "Moonrise" featuring Amy Jackson was released in October 2022.
On November 15, 2024, Atif Aslam launched "Borderless World," a music program to promote musical talent globally. The first season of "Borderless World" officially started on January 4, 2025.
Acting Career
Atif Aslam made his acting debut in the 2011 Pakistani film Bol, alongside actress Mahira Khan.
He also made his television debut in the Pakistani series Sang-e-Mah, which aired in January 2022 on HUM TV.
Personal Life
Atif Aslam married Sara Bharwana in Lahore on March 29, 2013. They have three children: two sons and one daughter.
