Bob Haozous was born on April 1, 1943. He was born in Los Angeles, California. His mother was Anna Marie Gallegos. She was a Navajo-Mestiza artist who made textiles. His father was Allan Houser. He was a very famous Apache sculptor.

When Bob was a child, he spent time in Apache, Oklahoma. This is where his tribe's main office is. Both of his parents taught at the Intermountain Indian School. This school was in Brigham City, Utah.

His Education and Military Service

Bob Haozous first studied at Utah State University. Later, he joined the US Navy. He served for four years. He was on a ship called the USS Frank Knox. This was during the Vietnam War.

After the war, Bob went back to school. He studied at the California College of Arts and Crafts. This college is in Oakland, California. In 1971, he earned his degree in sculpture.
