Early Life and Education
Robert Lane Saget was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on May 17, 1956. His family was Jewish. His mom, Rosalyn, worked in a hospital, and his dad, Benjamin, worked for a supermarket chain. When he was young, his family moved to Norfolk, Virginia. Bob Saget later said that he developed his sense of humor while being a bit rebellious in school. He returned to Philadelphia for his bar mitzvah, a special Jewish ceremony.
His family later moved to Encino, California, where Saget met Larry Fine from the famous comedy group The Three Stooges. Larry Fine would tell him many interesting stories. Before his last year of high school, his family moved back to Philadelphia, and he graduated from Abington Senior High School. Bob Saget first wanted to become a doctor. However, his English teacher saw how creative he was and encouraged him to try acting instead.
Saget went to Temple University to study film. There, he made a black-and-white film called Through Adam's Eyes. It was about a boy who had surgery to fix his face. This film won an award at the Student Academy Awards. While in college, he would travel to New York City to perform comedy. He played at famous comedy clubs like The Improv. He graduated from Temple University in 1978. He briefly tried graduate school but left after only a few days. He once shared that he had a serious appendix problem around that time. This experience made him less boastful and more humble.
Comedy and Television Career

In early 1987, Bob Saget had a short job on CBS's The Morning Program. Soon after, he got the role of Danny Tanner in Full House. This show became very popular with families and was one of the top 30 TV shows. In 1989, Saget started hosting America's Funniest Home Videos, where people sent in funny home videos. He hosted this show until 1997. For a few years in the early 1990s, he worked on both Full House and America's Funniest Home Videos at the same time. He returned to America's Funniest Home Videos in 2009 for a special 20th-anniversary show.
Bob Saget also directed movies and TV shows. In 1996, he directed the ABC TV movie For Hope. This movie was inspired by the life of his sister, Gay Saget, who had passed away from a disease called scleroderma three years earlier. In 1998, he directed his first full-length movie, Dirty Work. It starred comedians Norm Macdonald and Artie Lange. Even though it didn't do well at first, it later became a "cult favorite," meaning it gained a loyal fan base over time.
In 2001, Saget played another dad character on the show Raising Dad on The WB. The show also featured young actresses Kat Dennings and Brie Larson. It only lasted for one season. From 2005 to 2014, he was the voice of the future Ted Mosby who narrated the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother. He also hosted the NBC game show 1 vs. 100 from 2006 to 2008. His comedy special, That Ain't Right, was released in 2007. He dedicated it to his father, who passed away that year. From 2005 to 2010, Saget appeared in four episodes of the HBO show Entourage, playing a funny version of himself. He also appeared in the movie based on the series in 2015.
In 2007, Bob Saget wrote, directed, and voiced a character in Farce of the Penguins. This was a funny parody of the documentary March of the Penguins. He also performed in the Broadway musical The Drowsy Chaperone for a few months. In 2009, he starred in a new sitcom on ABC called Surviving Suburbia, but it only lasted one season. In 2010, Saget hosted the A&E series Strange Days. In this show, he explored different activities and lifestyles in unusual ways.
In 2014, Bob Saget released his book Dirty Daddy. In the book, he wrote about his career, the comedians who inspired him, and his life experiences. He went on a tour to promote the book, including a stand-up show in Australia. In 2015 and 2016, he guest-starred in two episodes of Grandfathered, which starred his Full House co-star John Stamos. From 2016 to 2020, Saget returned to play Danny Tanner in fifteen episodes of Full House's sequel series, Fuller House. In 2017, he released another stand-up comedy special called Bob Saget: Zero to Sixty.
In 2019, he was announced as the host of ABC's Videos After Dark. Saget also hosted the game show Nashville Squares on CMT. He appeared as a panelist on To Tell the Truth three times. In 2020, Saget competed on The Masked Singer as "Squiggly Monster." He also started a podcast called Bob Saget's Here for You. The last episode of his podcast was released after he passed away.

Death and Tributes
Bob Saget passed away on January 9, 2022, at the age of 65. He was on a stand-up comedy tour and had performed the night before in Ponte Vedra Beach. His funeral was held on January 14, and he was buried at Mount Sinai Memorial Park Cemetery.
An autopsy report later found that Saget died from an accidental head injury, most likely from a fall. He passed away in his sleep from the injuries.
When the news of Saget's death broke, it was announced during a broadcast of America's Funniest Home Videos, the show he originally hosted. The show's official YouTube channel posted a tribute video. Special dedications and clips of Saget hosting the show were also aired as a tribute.
Many people honored Bob Saget by donating to the Scleroderma Research Foundation (SRF). Saget had been on the board of directors for this foundation since 2003. The foundation received many donations from around the world after his passing. A special grant was also given to the charity, which would match every donation made in his memory.
A tribute special was filmed by his long-time friend Mike Binder at The Comedy Store on January 30. This special, called Dirty Daddy: The Bob Saget Tribute, was released on Netflix on June 10, 2022. It included footage from a private memorial held at Jeff Franklin's home.
