Candice Rickelle Glover (born November 22, 1989) is an American R&B singer and actress. She became famous after winning the twelfth season of the TV show American Idol. Candice was the first winner who had tried out for the show three times before making it to the live performances. Her first album, Music Speaks, came out in 2014.

Early Life
Candice Rickelle Glover was born on November 22, 1989. Her parents are John and Carole Glover. She grew up in Beaufort, South Carolina. Candice is the oldest of seven children. She finished high school at Beaufort High School in 2008.
Her Journey on American Idol
Candice Glover tried out for American Idol several times. She auditioned in Charlotte, North Carolina. Before winning, she had also tried out for the ninth and eleventh seasons of the show.
Early Auditions
In her first try for season nine, judge Simon Cowell thought she might only be a lounge singer. She was cut from the show when she forgot the words to a song.
For season eleven, Candice auditioned in Savannah, Georgia. She sang "Blame It on Me" by Chrisette Michele. She moved forward but her audition was not shown on TV. Later, she sang "Someone like You" by Adele. The judges loved it and gave her a standing ovation. However, she was eliminated after a group performance.
Winning Season 12
Candice tried out again for the twelfth season. This time, she sang "Syrup & Honey" by Duffy. She got a standing ovation from the judges. Randy Jackson said she was the best singer so far. Mariah Carey called her singing "the best singing we have heard thus far." Candice moved on to Hollywood.
In Hollywood, she sang "Impossible" by Christina Aguilera. For a group performance, she sang "Hit Em Up Style" with her team. The judges called it the best group they had seen all day. She then put a jazzy spin on Alicia Keys's "Girl on Fire." Candice made it to the Top 20 girls and then to Las Vegas.
In Las Vegas, she performed "Natural Woman" by Aretha Franklin. In the semi-finals, she sang "Ordinary People" by John Legend. On March 7, 2013, she was voted into the Top 10.
Candice continued to impress the judges and viewers. Her performance of "I (Who Have Nothing)" by Ben E. King placed her in the top three. After her Top 6 performances, she was in the top two. She sang "Lovesong" by The Cure and cried after getting a standing ovation.
On May 16, Candice Glover won the competition! Her first song as the winner, "I Am Beautiful", was released right after.
Music Speaks and Other Music

After winning American Idol, Candice's first album, Music Speaks, was available to pre-order. This was a new thing for Idol winners. She performed her first song, "I Am Beautiful", on TV shows like The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
"I Am Beautiful" did well on the music charts. Candice also went on the American Idols LIVE! Tour 2013. Her album Music Speaks was released on February 18, 2014.
Her second song from the album was "Cried." It came out in November 2013 and also did well on the charts.
Candice started working on her second album. She is writing all the songs herself. She said it will be more "her" style. She also plans to sing a duet with Amber Holcomb, another Idol contestant.
In 2015, she was featured on a song called "Love No Fear." In 2016, Candice announced she was no longer with her record labels. She plans to release her new music on her own. She hopes to work with artists like Jazmine Sullivan, Chris Brown, and Drake.
Candice returned to American Idol for its final show in 2016. She sang with other past contestants.
Broadway
Candice Glover also performed on Broadway. She was in a show called Home For the Holidays, Live on Broadway. It ran from November to December 2017 at the August Wilson Theatre.
Personal Life
Candice wants to help young girls. She hopes to become a counselor to support them through tough times, similar to what she experienced as a teenager.
During American Idol, Nicki Minaj was very moved by Candice's performance of "Next to Me." Nicki said Candice had become much more confident on the show. Candice once said she would never wear a dress on Idol. But she did wear one for some performances, including the finale. After this, girls tweeted her saying she inspired them and made them feel more confident.
Her favorite singers who influenced her include Christina Aguilera, Jazmine Sullivan, and Brandy. In 2011, Jazmine Sullivan praised Candice's singing on YouTube. Candice later sang that same song, "Chasing Pavements" by Adele, again in the American Idol finale.
