Çaykur Rizespor Kulübü is a professional football club from Rize, a city in Turkey. The team plays in the top Turkish football league, called the Süper Lig. The club started on May 19, 1953. Their first colors were green and yellow, but they later changed to blue and green. Since 1990, a Turkish tea company named Çaykur has sponsored the team. That's why the club's name includes "Çaykur" and their logo has a tea leaf! Çaykur Rizespor plays its home games at the Rize City Stadium.

History of the Club

The club was founded on May 19, 1953, by five people: Yakup Temizel, Atıf Taviloğlu, İsmet Bilsel, Yaşar Tümbekçioğlu, and Muharrem Kürkçü. They wanted to help young people in Rize develop their physical and cultural skills. The first club colors were yellow and green. Yellow came from the lemons and oranges grown in the area, and green represented the tea gardens, which are a symbol of Rize. Yaşar Dömlekçioğlu was the club's first president.

From 1953 to 1968, when the club played in amateur leagues, many local players from Rize played for the team. In 1968, the club became a professional team by joining with two other local clubs, "Rize Güneşspor" and "Fenergençlik." They started playing in the third division with new colors: blue and green. In 1978–1979, Rizespor won their league title and moved up to play in the Turkish Süper Lig for the very first time!

Rivalries: The Black Sea Derby

Çaykur Rizespor has a big rivalry with another team called Trabzonspor. This is known as the Black Sea derby. These two teams are rivals because they are from cities close to each other and have often played against each other in many local and regional tournaments.
