Clare County is a county located in the state of Michigan in the United States. It's a place where many people live and work. In 2020, about 30,856 people called Clare County home. The main town, or county seat, where the county government is located, is Harrison.

History of Clare County
Clare County was first created in 1840 by the Michigan government. Back then, it was called Kaykakee County. This name came from a Sauk Indian Chief.
A few years later, in 1843, the county's name was changed to Clare County. It was named after County Clare in Ireland. For many years, other counties helped manage Clare County. But in 1871, Clare County set up its own local government.
The first county seat was a town called Farwell. Later, in 1877, the county seat was moved to Harrison, where it is today.
Geography and Nature
Clare County is located in Michigan and has a total area of about 575 square miles. Most of this area, about 564 square miles, is land. The rest, about 11 square miles, is water, like lakes and rivers. This means about 1.9% of the county is covered by water.
Clare County is considered part of both Northern Michigan and Central Michigan. It's a great place for outdoor activities!
