Exploring Birmingham's Neighborhoods
How Birmingham Grew Bigger
Between 1889 and 1995, Birmingham's size grew a lot. Imagine the city like a giant puzzle, adding more and more pieces! Many places that used to be separate towns or villages joined Birmingham. Even though they are now part of the city, many of these areas still feel special and have their own unique vibe. For example, Sutton Coldfield was its own town until 1974. Also, New Frankley joined in 1995 from a nearby area called Bromsgrove. This growth helped Birmingham become one of the largest cities in the UK.
