The Story of Dick's Sporting Goods Park
Before Dick's Sporting Goods Park, the Colorado Rapids played at two other stadiums. They played at Mile High Stadium from 1996 to 2001. Then, they moved to Invesco Field at Mile High from 2002 to 2006.
In 2004, the soccer club and Commerce City announced a big plan. This plan included building new youth soccer fields and a new city center. The stadium itself cost $64.5 million to build. Commerce City voters agreed to spend $65 million to improve the area around the stadium. This helped support the new building.
Construction started in the fall of 2005. The stadium was built near Denver's old airport. It is also close to the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge. In November 2006, the company Dick's Sporting Goods made a deal. They agreed to have their name on the stadium for 20 years.
The stadium first opened with a special practice game. Only people from Commerce City and season ticket holders could attend. The very first official game was on April 7, 2007. The Colorado Rapids played against D.C. United and won 2–1. Herculez Gomez scored the first goal in the new stadium. In its first year, the stadium hosted the 2007 MLS All-Star Game. In that game, the MLS All-Stars beat Scotland's Celtic FC.
The Rapids played their first playoff game at DSG Park on October 28, 2010. They won 1–0 against the Columbus Crew. Two weeks later, a large crowd of 17,779 fans watched. The Rapids defeated the San Jose Earthquakes. This win helped them on their way to winning their first-ever MLS Cup.
Commerce City owns the stadium. Kroenke Sports & Entertainment (KSE) operates it. KSE also owns other sports teams. These include the Colorado Avalanche (hockey), Denver Nuggets (basketball), and the Colorado Mammoth (lacrosse).

Costa Rica protested the game because of the snowy field conditions, but their protest was denied. This game is now famous in soccer history as the "SnowClásico."
Music Events and Concerts
Dick's Sporting Goods Park is not just for sports; it's also a popular place for music.

Phish Concerts
The rock band Phish has a special tradition at the venue. They have played a three-night concert series here every Labor Day Weekend since 2011. The only year they missed was 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2022, their concert series grew to four nights.
