Capitol Latin is a record label that helps artists make and share their music. It used to be called EMI Latin. Today, it is part of Universal Music Latin Entertainment. This is a bigger music company called Universal Music Group. Before that, it was part of another big music company called EMI.

History of Capitol Latin

In 1989, a music executive named José Behar started Capitol/EMI Latin. He used to work at another music company. One of the first artists he signed was Selena. He believed she would become a huge star, like Gloria Estefan.

In 1990, Capitol/EMI Latin bought a smaller record company called Cara Records. This helped them work with popular Tejano music artists. Some of these artists were Mazz, David Lee Garza, and La Mafia.

In 1993, the company changed its name to just EMI Latin. Many popular artists worked with EMI Latin. These included Thalía, Pedro Fernández, and RBD. The label also signed reggaeton artists like DJ Flex and Tito El Bambino.

In 2009, EMI Latin changed its name again to Capitol Latin. It also moved its main office from Miami to Los Angeles. In 2012, Universal Music Group bought EMI. Because of this, Capitol Latin joined with Universal Music Latin Entertainment. Capitol Latin is now a brand under Universal Music Latin Entertainment. Universal Music Group still helps distribute its music.
