East Hoathly was once home to a special radio station. This station was part of the Decca Navigator System. This system helped guide ships, especially during important events like D-Day. It used radio signals to help ships know exactly where they were. However, with the invention of GPS, the Decca Navigator system was no longer needed.

In 2006, a fireworks factory in nearby Shortgate caught fire. This factory was sometimes mistakenly reported as being in Halland. However, it is actually located in the parish of Ringmer.
