Écoteaux was once a small town, also known as a municipality, located in the Lavaux-Oron area of the canton of Vaud in Switzerland. On January 1, 2012, Écoteaux joined with several other nearby towns like Bussigny-sur-Oron, Châtillens, and Palézieux to form a new, larger municipality called Oron.

History of Écoteaux
Écoteaux is quite old! It was first mentioned in official records way back in 1134. Back then, its name was spelled Escotaux.
Where is Écoteaux?
Écoteaux covers an area of about 3.6 square kilometers (1.4 square miles). Imagine a square about 1.9 kilometers (1.2 miles) on each side – that's roughly the size!
Most of the land, about 77%, is used for farming. Forests cover about 15% of the area. The remaining 7% has buildings and roads.
Écoteaux is located near the border of the Canton of Fribourg. It sits in the lower hills of the Alps. Two rivers, the Mionne to the north and the Broye to the south, are close by. The area includes the main village of Écoteaux and several smaller groups of houses called hamlets.
